Mashemeji Derby gate collection lower than past years

This image is from a past derby

This year’s first edition of the Mashemeji derby raised Sh3,056,000 according to official numbers received by the club. This is however lower than the same encounter last year on May 13 which raised 3,108,800 with lower gate charges. The second leg encounter that was played in August raised Sh3.8 million.

Going further back to 2011, the same edition of the mashemeji derby raised Ksh 5595900 million with much lower gate charges. On that occasion the reported attendance was 23484. In this year’s edition, only 18,000 tickets were printed.

So why are the numbers lower this year ? Perhaps it is all the negative publicity. Club officials must work harder to counter this negative perceptions for example by highlighting the peaceful nature of Sunday’s match. Another reason might be the elevated gate charges.

  • I think that it is the mashemeji who did not come to support their Team. We were there in droves. you could even see very many empty places on efusi sides. In fact they let us down on our home game. I wonder, what would they expect us to do when it will be their home game?

  • for me it is lack of Ladha ya mpira ya Gor at the moment. I did not see a serious build up and hunger for a win from the players for the weekend match. Not a specific player is exuding a champions mentality. Tech Bench have weakened the playing unit and the good players are overstretched or moving on. Let see what changes will come with the transfer window and world cup. someone could borrow a leaf for the better

As Jaupanda puts it as Gor we were there as usual. The empty terraces were on the shemeji’s side. But we all know that as usual they never attend matches the way we do. The bad press and lack of wins against Tusker also caused the faint hearted to skip the match due to fear of violence. Otherwise the REAL gor fans will be there ladha or no ladha to support their team. After all what matters is whether a team wins or not. The rest are details.
The tactics we used against SONY, chemelil and sofapaka were different from the ingwe ones. We had a more offensive formation but unfortunately we lost and have another chance to fight

to be honest,we may need to make some changes especially in midfield if we hope to sustain a challenge in all competitions that we are involved in.
Of-course we do not require radical surgery, but we need a minor operation to keep us going….and for me,that has to be in midfield and central defense and possibly left back where we have no cover for Walusimbi who in my opinion has played very well since he joined us.
Failure to make this minor changes will see us struggle in the second leg especially if our closet opponents strengthen their squads!!

  • The team is good but the problem is that the midfielders and defenders are too slow. Wanyonyi, Kizito, Eric and Emuge are good examples. I believe it could be due to fatigue, poor techniques and poor attitude. Some of our players allowed Afc players to roam free making them look good yet they are just average players. As a team we have lost the swag and this is also a problem. AFC taking to the bank you going no where. I still believe we shall take the league if we keep the faith.

If the stadium capacity is 33000 why 18000? Why not even 25000? And those who always want to get into the stadium without paying, you are the worst enemies of this club.

Moses Arita of Thika is free, he has never played for Kogalo but would be a very good option upfront; where is the money anyway? Am sure Efusi will rush and gobble up that one.

As a big club gor should get players from all over the globe. Even in Brazil. Fortunately we have passed that era of looking backwards to get players from one corner of the country. A club like Man CIty, Chelsea, Bayern, Real etc now are global brands and have players from all over the place though the support base remains the same

Dan original :: let me inform u that even kisumu is part of that world u r talking of. nevertheless the original Gor Mahia had a spiritual connection to ksm and it used to do exploits.but this nairobi based little club is not our kogalo which never completed a season without playing at least two of its home matches at. the legendary kisumu moi stadium.no wonder my 14 year old son does not bother about local football.he is a man u fan….young people in ksm know very little abt the nrb Gor Mahia.where will we get future supporters? tafakari hayo bro.

  • I’VE WATCH A NUMBER OF VIDEO CLIPS OF GOR MAHIA MATCHES, PLS ACCEPT THIS TRUTH, GOR HAS ONLY ONE STRIKER CALLE SSERENKUMA, THE REST ARE BLUNT, I LOOKED AT HOW THEY MISSED OBVIOUS CHANCES WEN THEY PLAYED KRA, PLS ADD GOOD SRIKERS IF U WANT FUTURE OF THIS CLUB, AGAIN DEFFENCE HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. SSERENKUMA IS VERY VERY GOOD IN CREATING CHANCES BUT NO ONE TO SCORE!!!! PLS LOOK 4 GOOD SRIKERS, DEFFENCE AND TRY TO RETAIN SERRENKUMA. AM NOT IN KENYA BUT I DO FOLLOW EVERY STEP OF GOR.
