Pomp and circumstance but KCB ruins Party

K’Ogalo expected to crown off their moment with a comfortable win, but the bankers had other plans outplaying the newly crowned champs
KCB beat Gor Mahia 2-0 in match day 29 of 2013 Kenyan Premier League season but that did not stop the latter from being crowned this season’s champions.
Gor Mahia expected to crown off their moment with a comfortable win over the bankers, but KCB had other plans totally outplaying the newly crowned champions.
The bankers started the match well and Jacob Kelli was a constant threat to the Gor backline. K’Ogalo played a high defense line limiting the movement of Alwanga and Kelli, getting them caught in offside positions more than four times in the opening 20 minutes.
Kelli was particularly industrious as he was looking for the goal that would take him a toe above Jesse Were in the hunt for the golden boot. He came close on 30 minutes with a well taken shot from the left but Jerim Onyango was well placed to save.
But the keeper would have little to help in 38th minute as Clifford Alwanga broke the deadlock with a well taken free-kick. Jerim had come off his line to block off Alwanga but he handled his shot outside the box for the freekick.
The bankers piled more pressure and on minute 43 it paid off, Jacob Kelli scoring his much sought goal. Gor Mahia’s central defense pairing was caught napping with Alwanga feeding Kelli who in turn riffled into the roof from the left foot.
Gor brightened in the second period, buoyed by the mammoth crowd that had come out to witness them being crowned champions. They were almost cauight napping again but Brian Osumba’s goal in the 52nd minute was disallowed for offside after some good interchange of passes with Kelli.
Bobby Williamson sought to mend his backline that was leaking, pulling off Donald Mosoti for Solomon Nasio. Nasio went to right back while David Owino moved to centre back, a move that settled the nerves for Williamson.
Patrick Oboya also replaced Kevin Omondi and his speed and ball work proved vital into Gor Mahia’s revived attack.Edwin Lavatsa should have done better with 66th minute chance after a good one-two movement with Oboya but he tapped wide with only Sammy Okinda to beat. Three minutes to the final whistle, Gor thought they had scored a consolation but Joseph Wanyonyi’s goal was ruled out for offside.
Gor were however, back to smile after 90 minutes, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga handing over the trophy to Jerim Onyango, much to the elation of K’Ogalo fans in the stadium.
Congrats boys for the cup but we still have a long long way to go.
Congratulations as we lift the Cup high!!! I think the loss to KCB is a good thing for us and a wake up call that after the party life goes on and the fight must be on and on. Congratulations to Gor Mahia fraternity.
NEED TO BEEF UP CENTRAL DEFENCE, CREATIVE MIDFIELDERS AND AN ALL OUT STRIKER – JACOB KELI ONCE AGAIN PROOVED HE IS A GOR MAHIA MATERIAL
I’d like to dismiss the loss as inconsequential since we’d already won the league but that would simply b cheating myself. TB has 2 have a serious relook at the ability of our midfield & forwards. Ave been concerned abt these departments all season & i still insist we won’t go far in CECAFA/CAF with the calibre of players we have.
Let’s refocussed on the GorTv Shield so AFC don’t do a KCB on us too.
Congratulations to the boys for a job well done. You are truly CHAMPIONS!!. Winning a league is no mean achievement. I hope the loss to KCB will serve as an eye opener and help us in preparations for next assignments. Please, lets not start critisizing the players bcoz of that defeat.
I was at the stadium. Gor and their fans in green look more like National Youth Service boys than an army. For the coming year, please go by NYS instead of Green Army. Congratulations NYS for lifting the trophy
CONGRATULATIONS!! CONGRATULATIONS!! CONGRATULATIONS!! The players and the TB have done a good job throughout the season. I also acknowledge the work EC has done. LONG LIVE GOR MAHIA!
CONGRATULATIONS FROM JUBA!!
KOGALO FOR EVER !!
congrats for winning the league. KCB just like the other teams in the league came out TO PLAY GOR MAHIA. one thing i have to point out is not the way gor lost for apart from Lavatsa i don’t think the rest of the boys had their mind on the game. my take is on KCB, for one they played very well and were very impressive but i challenge you to watch their next game with whoever. so to KCB i think i will give you the Fake award. none of the KCB team players including the coach should taken seriously. just shows how indisciplined players can be in general and how coaches have no hand in controlling their players whims. why is now that tuskers cannot even win matches after displaying a killer attitude towards gor. and ulinzi will do the same only that like KCB, u will be playing with a team which has already completed it’s task. so i urge gor fans not to be taken in by KCB performance. as i have said before the only team which has a chance of improving it’s standards is and will remain gor coz all teams come to the pitch with the same attitude. i urge them to keep it up… and needless to say gor could win the league with 3 games to spare. just watch next year, i bet it will be with 5 games to spare.
congrats mashujaa, wat a moment yesterday!!!to my fans please we need you nxt season, avoid risky ways, like jana after game.wat i saw at thika high way…one pason died n op wengine wote walifika salama.back to mashujaa, now where u’re heading..magames nayo…prepare wel n improve on ur weaknes.congrats to all again to my fans, mashujaa,Ec n Tb.
Ingo, thank you for being our fashion watchman. I do not know why you are more on this blog site than you are on the Efusi site. What number on the table is Efusi, I cannot remember. But you are our friend all the same, join us in celebration man and stop whining. Green is the colour of nourishment if you do not know.
We have a date with you remember, the GoTV final and mano wasekawo.
Phew! Gigiwasekao nyaka Ingo bende. @Ingo, between Gor Mahia and NYS, which one came first?
Party time or not, the loss to KCB is disappointing. When then do we stamp our authority? What about the fear factor that good old Creative Village pleads for? Or did we lose “because Baba was in attendance?” By the way, Baba was in attendance that night we blanked Chemelil 2-0 at Nyayo and even in the following match when we beat Western Stima 2-0 at Tok Komwanda! I believe with that evidence I can advance the theory that we shall always see 2 goals scored when Baba is around.
Congrats to the team (players, TB, Admin and fans) and I return all the glory and honour to the Almighty God for being crowned the champion. Our Lord has seen us through this tight and tough KPL 2013 competition.
I was in the stadium but got disappointed with behaviour of our fans that never allowed players to take pictures by invading the stadium. This was totally wrong and our fans need to be educated on some of these basic etiquette.
Congrats to our team…but like Mwakio i was dissapointed with our fans/hooligans who keep on invading the stadium…are these reall fans or hooligans??
I was talking to some friends yesterday who have been serious supporters of Gor over the years..i asked them why i no longer see them in Gor’s T-shirts..they told me that in as much as they support Gor..they are not interested to be viewed as hooligans hence..Gor’s T-Shirt is associated with hooliganism, vandalism, destruction of people’s vehicle on the road in the name of celebrating…etc..I agreed with their analysis and i’ve joined their group.
There is no honour in being proud of winning the league, yet the society views you negatively. I believe over 90% of Kenyans dont like Gor Mahia fans/hooligans…they only like the playing unit! IT’S TIME THE FANS CHANGE!
Congratulations to the team…..the hard work starts now if you ask me.
As much as we have withstood the test of time,i must say this team cannot compete in CAF.We have been average against most local teams and thats what might come back to haunt us against the giants of Africa!
We need to recruit and recruit well and at the same time retain the core of this title winning side. The 2 combinations if done well will make things work for us in CAF…best of luck!!!
Well said@Mwakio and @ Pundit. As has been said by many bloggers on this site, our fans must style up.This belligerence and chest thumping heroics only serves to starve Gor of prospective sponsors and the much needed cash.We don’t live an Island. We live a society where we share resources. We must respect other people and their property.I read on this blog about the death of a fan yesterday and it is not the first time.It is becoming a routine. We should not take our celebration too far.Allow me to congratulate all the bloggers for the good work done the entire season.Your contributions were very incisive, well researched and educative. We wept together and celebrated together on this blog.It is my hope that the criticisms and praises that were shed on this blog will be taken in the spirit it was given, gladly. On yesterday’s game I must say the boys lacked passion and the motivation they have exhibited the whole season. This was due to,in part, fatigue and the absence of pressure.A confluence of factors chief among the pressure is what sustains an aircraft suspended and gliding in the sky.Remove it and no flight occurs.Anyone out there who could play soccer with a deflated ball?Put differently would you ask your son who has scored an A to repeat form 4 and re-sit KCSE?I have seen Man-U lose home games after winning the EPL titles.Gor is no different. The manager must cushion his charges against is wanton injuries and a possible burnout.Remember there is the litle matter of the Gotv cup.
Dear brothers and sisters I want to say here n categorically that we will talk n keep on talking n nothing will change, i watched yesterday how the hooligans we call Gor fans behaved yesterday n was really saddened n my celebration just gone that way n I headed direct home, even if its celebration seriously we could not even allow our players time even to take picture kwa ile banner ya 2013 TPL CHAMPION? we must know that Gor don’t have fans but thugs, its high time the federation n the government take charge on our stadiums tuwache side shows n act accordingly, some of these so called fans don’t even watch TV nor even have time to read the blog so how can u educate them where will u find them? On the issue of the person who died on thika road accoding to the report I had coz me I even stopped on the road to check whether he was one of our fans but he did not have Gor T shirt so when I inquired from the bystanders I was told he was trying to pickpocket so wakati alikuwa anakimbizwa he jumped from the outside lane to the other line n was crashed by a speeding vehicle
@ Baba Travis..you are spot on…@ Erico Jarae…you are 100% spot on! We have thugs and hooligans acting like fans…this has to stop.
I personally stopped going to the stadium because these guys are irritating..KFF and GVT should come up with serious measures like arresting any one who jumps into the playing field and charge them for tresspassing or anything.
Some of us support Gor but are ashamed of being seen in a Gor’s T-shirt!
Why on earth should fans jump onto a person’s pick-up and break his side mirror in the name of celebrating??? I detest what i see the so called Gor fans do to innocent people!
Arrogance and chest thumping will not help our course or way…HUMBLENESS is a virture.

Let fans wajienjoy its been long since K’Ogalo won the cup and fans have been yearning for the same. Remember last year same time when the final whistle was blown and the fans could not believe the cup had eluded them. So spare fans the scathing attack and instead join them. They have played a big role in ensuring what happened last year is not repeated. K’Ogaloooooooooooooooooo Heeeeeeeeeeeeeee K’Ogalo Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
@Ochigah…we are fans and we are happy…but we dont want to be associated with hooliganism, arrogance, violence and what i saw yesterday fans jumping onto an innocent man’s vehicle to celebrate on it thereby wanaharibu gari ya mtu bure tu! NO NO…SOME PEOPLE NEED REDEMPTION! HELP THEM LORD.
I agree with Ericko Jarae, our fans spoilt the party.
Did they have to storm the pitch n spoilt the grand entry of the limousins carrying the players?
Did the have to go in again whn the ceremony had not even been concluded?
Those are HOOLIGANS!!!!
Guys, one thing I don’t understand is why we scold/become agitated when security is beefed at the stadium like it was yesterday yet we cannot discipline ourselves. By dening the players a chance to complete their celebrations and enjoy together with the fans it actually makes them loathe the hooligans. Do some of us fans have anything between our ears. It was only a matter of giving the players 10 minutes after which they would have taken the historic snaps and the fans could then go and celebrate into the field. By the way celebrating doesn’t mean vandalizing the podium and anything on site. We seriously need to style up else else then the KPL will be happy with the Tuskers, Sofapaka and Ulinzi winning the trophies. By the way I was not expecting a better organised judging form the past experience. As much as we have some hooligans for fans the many of us who genuinely love gor should not despair as we are the only ones who can sustain our support. These goons the moment the team is struggling will go back to the EPL where they crept from. Afterall you cannot leave Kenya to go to UG just because our name has been tainted internationally
@ Dan what u r saying is correct, if i can remember we used to watch Gor play in an empty stadium with less than 50 fans so these hooligans just came because we r doing ok kwa league if we can start doing bad GOD forbid hautawaona, washindwe kabisa.
It was like a bird which had been trapped suddenly escaping. They released themselves or do I say they drowned themselves in joy. It explained the long wait that eventually became a reality. For a moment i thought I was in Europe though disappointed the fireworks were not as splendid. I hope they took advantage of the Diwali to talk to the community that celebrates it.Secondly, I wish Rama Salim was around to finally shade tears of joy rather than of pain of losing what was already in the bag.But I think he must celebrated it where ever he was.
Rama was with the team all thru from utali to the stadium so he was 100% involved even when our patron was giving 1M he was there n was one of the beneficiaries Brother
The current generation of GOR MAHIA supporters are hooligans by nature. I have witnessed the past glorious era when K’Ogalo lifted trophies and I can assure you that celebration were very colorful and enjoyable. But after 18 years wait the majority of our youthful supporters have been gradually transforming from fanatics to hardcore hooligans.
Even if you deploy a full battalion of kDF, GOR winning ceremony will never materialize, GOR MAHIA hooligans are so daring that they care less inclusive of death to justify their uncouth behavior. The forthcoming GoTv final against AFC will be a litmus for FKF to flex their muscle since it will be two big clubs with best hooligans amongst their supporters competing for hooliganism bragging rights. Every time K’OGALO grows in numbers the ration is always (9:1), thus implying one humble fan against nine hardcore hooliganism.
As a matter of fact the dangerous ones are the ladies branded in green and white K’Ogalo jersey. They like hooliganism to a large extent that they can even strip naked if you dare question their actions. This ladies are not DIVA’s but rather some “Samantha’s” in the green army. We just have to live with this menace because hooligans have tyranny of numbers at the moment and EC knows very well that they are their secret weapon during AGM elections.
All else has failed in stopping fans from entering the pitch.
SOLUTION
Get policemen on horseback and others with dogs…..nobody will dare enter that pitch especially with those canines waiting to pounce and the powerful kicks of horses!!!!
@Fred and OKOTH JABILO, we just need awareness and education. For sure, our fans are more passionate but we need some moderation so that we behave well and attract more fans to stadium.
With the crowd I saw on Sunday, one day we can fill Kasarani Stadium.
We just need assurance and continuance education to impart discipline and order in our fans.
Mr. mwakio the problem is where to get these people since most of them don’t read what we r writing here nor they listen to the radio stations that they can get this kind of sensitization, these r the people who mostly listen to ghetto radio so my Brother its tricky
@Erico Jarae thank you so much for that correction, I did not know that he was around. On hooliganism and education, I think that where there is a will there is a way. This culture of hooliganism should be arrested with urgency and firmness. One way indeed is awareness at every match. There should be set aside time detriments that this causes to the good image of the club. Am sure that this done overtime, even the hardest hardcore will begin to develop a sense of shame to themselves.I also do not see why security men should feel intimidated. If they stand firm and take their positions early enough, these lapses would not be occurring. I think that there are other leagues in the world that are bigger that ours yet less hooliganism, why should we allow ours to go to the extremes.
Ask Why hooliganism, why why.. but just wait for GM elections and you’ll see these hooligans cheering and standing next to the ec guys.
