Rachier : Gor Mahia to build stadium

Picture of the Azam stadium in Dar es salaam
Chairman Ambrose Rachier has re-iterated his campaign promise about building a stadium. Remember this idea was prevalent during the run-up to the last campaign. He has however said that the idea will come to fruition only if he funds are available. The stadium is to be built on land that was given to the club in Embakasai. “In this regard, we need partners and I would like to call upon the Member of Parliament for Embakasi John Ogutu to help us achieve this objective.” said Rachier according to a story posted on futaa.com
Walk the Talk
The honorable Raila Odinga challenged Mr. Rachier to come through on his promise this time. “Walk the talk and get the project underway, I trust you, we will come on board and see it through. It will be of the ultimate dreams being the first community club with its own stadium. We all want the best for the team.” Said Raila to michezoafrika.com.
“Such projects require enormous sums of funds, however with people of good will all over, the project will be completed in no time. Get is started. ”Raila continued
Mr. Odinga presented the club with a reward of Ksh 1 million for winning the league.
The Azam Stadium
The Azam stadium has a capacity of 7000 but is built in such a way that there is room to expand on its capacity when funds become available. It has an artifical turf surface. It was officially opened in 2013 but had been in use since 2010. Per the picture above, the terraces are built from inexpensive material (essentially benches) which is okay so long as they meet safety standards.
Azam stadium is the best club owned stadium in East Africa. The club is now in a position to make money by renting the stadium for various events, selling naming rights and they keep most of the proceeds from the gate. And as can be seen in the picture above, companies like Coca Cola are paying to advertize at the stadium. With this kind of revenue generation, they should be able to increase the capacity the stadium in the near future.
And note that a stadium capacity of 7000 will be sufficient for most of the home games of Gor Mahia because the total number of tickets sold rarely exceeds 7000
Fans should should push Mr. Chairman
In Kenya Nairobi City Stars are the only self supporting club that have their own ground which barely passes for a stadium. But at least they have their own ground so they do not have to pay to use stadia for training. In rugby Harlequins and Impala have their own stadia because as far back as the 1930s, the colonial government saw the importance of having sports clubs and of enabling clubs to sustain themselves.
If building a stadium is unreachable at the moment then the minimum task that fans should hold Rachier accountable for is to get the club its own training ground as a starting point. As the years proceed, the club can start adding terraces and a perimeter fence. Now that Mr. Rachier has come through on his promise to win at least one league title during his tenure, we should thank him and now push him to put Gor Mahia on the path to having its own stadium. It will not happen overnight but a journey of 1000 miles must start with the first step. Lets also hold the relevant authorities from the local MP to the governor accountable for making it possible for the club to reclaim its land.
Mr. Rachier, Gor players do not have health insurace. Why dont you start there first. Its not right for Gor players to be going to Kenyata Hospital, City Council Clinics or jua kali clinics in estates for soccer related injuries. Crawl first before you try to walk and then run. Si hiyo ni sawa mzee?
Lol, ati average GM attendance is a mere 7K fans(HIGH COST OF HOOLIGANISM/TICKETS/GATE CORRUPTION) thats not a “big” club by most standards. Again lets avoid lavish promises and work on the basics of IMPROVING MEMBERSHIP & HOME MATCHES ATTENDANCE THRU GOALS, TITLES, ENTERTAINING SOCCER & SECURITY.
i humbly propose again
GMMM(GOR MAHIA’S MEMBERS MANIFESTO)=GMM(GOR MAHIA MPYA)
FANS MUST SET THE AGENDA. Say no 2 hooliganism, bloated EC,Chaotic 100bob election driven membership.
MEMBERS’ OBLIGATIONS
..
THE PAST MAKES THE PRESENT ‘COHERENT’.
RACHIER, YOU HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR THE LAST 6 YEARS. INFACT, THE PROJECT BESIDES BEING EXPENSIVE, IS NOW DAUNTING AS YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH ILLEGAL SQUATTERS WHO HAVE INVADED THE LAND IN DROVES !!! HERE IS NOW 5 POINT PLAN TO GET GOR MAHIA BACK TO ITS GLORY DAYS —-
POINT 1 – REVISIT THE ISSUE OF PLAYER WELFARE. LETS MAKE WELFARE OF PLAYERS AND TECHNICAL BENCH TOP PRIORITY
POINT 2 – REVISIT THE ISSUE OF SISTER CLUB.LETS HAVE A FOREIGN SISTER CLUB THAT THE CLUB AND BE REMODELLED AROUND AND USE AS FEEDER FOR OUR UPCOMING PLAYERS.
POINT 3 – REVISIT THE ISSUE OF REVENUE COLLECTION. LETS CLOSE ALL THE TAPS THAT ARE DRAINING THE CLUB, THE MUCH NEEDED REVENUES.
POINT 4 – REVISIT THE ISSUE OF SPONSORSHIP. LET US HAVE A GOLD SPONSOR, A SILVER SPONSOR AND BRONZE SPONSOR.EACH SPONSOR WITH A CLEAR ROLE AND MANDATE.
POINT 5 – REVISIT THE ISSUE OF CLUB OWNERSHIP. LET US HAVE GOR MAHIA OPERATING AS A COMPANY AND NOT AS A COMMUNITY CLUB.
I BELIEVE ONLY AND ONLY AFTER YOU HAVE FIXED THE 5 ISSUES CAN YOU START TALKING ABOUT A STADIUM. OMERA LET US BE HONEST WITH WHERE WE ARE COMING FROM !!!
1.Monthly contribution of 600/year(only 50/month) payable in advance, maintained in a permanent electronic register, which WILL FORM the basis 4 shares in a future coop/company. With 2k members GM will b guaranteed kshs.1.2M/year but with 20k members this bcoms 12M. Easy coz Bwana claims FB branch has more than 5K active members.
2.Fix tickets 4 homes games 2b terraces 150 & VIP 450. GM has 2 target an average of 15K fans per home game not current 3/4k paying fans. Charging 300 so that EC can….
Very clear, “walk the talk , get it started. ” The words of RAO speaks volume.
facilitate corrupt entry @ 100/50bob.
With goals, entertaining soccer the GM carpet style & security attendance of 15k/home game cn b attained. AFC & latter stage CAF games cn b @ 200/500 for terrace/VIP. GM cn raise above ksh.40M from these measures.
3.Recall of non-performing members, but stringent threshold as 2 the time & conditions of recall must be set.
Intial individual membership 4 GM should NEVER B DISCRIMINATORY COZ REMEMBER TERRACE GATE COLLECTIONS R THE BIGGEST REVENUE SOURCE 4 GM.
4. Appointment of external auditor. This MUST NEVER b left 2 the EC. Pass a resolution that audited GM financials must b published in a national newspaper.
NOW LISTEN AR THESE PRACTICAL STEP WILL GENERATE KSH. 12+40=52M add Tuzo sponsorship of 29M AND YOU’VE A GAURANTEED KSH.81M enough 4 top players, medical insurance & even start on the stadium. I’ve not mentioned donations & merchadizing which EC has mismanaged.
But 2 achieve this FANS MUST agitate 2 restructure EC into a lean board with ……
specific measurable roles against which elected officials’ policies can b guaged i.e
1. Director Chairman-Sponsorship & Security. These r the immediate priorities for any serious candidate who must put foward concrete policies on sponsorship & security. Note Tuzo deal is only 4 one year. GAURANTEED SECURITY MEANS BETTER ATTENDANCE HENCE HIGHER GATE COLLECTIONS, which together with solid membership means club has a basis to seeking financing for even the stadium, after meeting the basics.
…..
2.Technical & TEAM Welfare Director-Benchmarks cn b policies on medical insurance, coaches accomodation & transport, stability of team etc
3.Membership,Attendance,Public Relations & Transparency Director- 4 a start recruit @ least 2k members/year @600 payable in advance. Aim 4 attendance of at least 15K/home game to ensure that these 2 crucial sources of revenue r maximized. Again though donations r most appreciated the 2 mentioned sources of revenue + merchandizing r the bedrock of any big club…
claim land, perimaterwaii branches r able, trainjng surface can b done at acost of 700000kshs jst 4r astart n wl save alot
there r investers that can constract Afraha type of stady at acost of 10million of which we can raise.
In GM membership & merchandizing r poorly managed.
4.Marketing, Merchandizing Director-Ensure only genuine GM products r in the market, fakes r eradicated. Merchandize shld b ideally b retailed only by members individuals & cooperate. Another way of encouraging uptake of membership.
5.FIN & ADMIN DIRECTOR-Must publish audited accounts strictly 3 months after year end etc.
LET’S DO AWAY WITH VAGUE UNMEASURABLE POSITIONS OF CHAIRMAN, 3 V.Cs & 5 Secretaries.
The elected directors should then………
competively hire a lean secretariat, on performance contract, 2 implement board’s policies & daily operations . Key officers shld b CEO, FIn & Admin & Technical Mgr cum Head coach (2 avoid conflicts). Due 2 limited resources Individuals should be able to multitask 2 avoid bloated secretariat.
Elected directors must pledge adequate time/ability to generate proper policies. No. of board meetings per year & compulsory attendance must approved by members.
MEMBERS ITS U 2 SET THE AGENDA & BASIC……
MANIFESTOS BUT AVOID LAVISH MANIFESTOS & UNKNOWNS.
REMEMBER SUCCESSFUL ELECTIONS HENCE EC IS A PROCESS FAILDED(CHAOTIC) ELECTIONS HENCE BLOATED EC IS AN EVENT.
As i urge qualified legends i.e Obwaka,Lule,Sianga & Makamu & also able bloggers to vie.
Let’s the process we cn use our smses, internet etc.
as am sure EC has adpoted the election date as the classic ambush/ secret weapon.
2 TB & players remember the GorTV has bcom as important as winning the league coz its against AFC so remain focussed
THE MIGHTY GOR MAHIA SHOULD BE BUILT AROUND THE MODEL OF F.C.BARCELONA. IT SHOULD BE OWNED BY SUPPORTERS NOT BY AN INDIVIDUAL. GOOGLE AND STUDY HOW SUPPORTERS HAVE INVESTED IN BARCA.I PREFER THEIR STRUCTURE FOR A COMMUNITY CLUB LIKE GOR MAHIA …WE CANNOT GIVE GIR OGANDO TO ONE INVESTER.
i thnk if gor needs a stadium it has to be at least 15 thousand seater capacity. but if the club is to succeed this type of stadium would turn out to be a blunder. the same thing Motema pepmbe is going thru’ now. once the stadium is built will the hooligans be paying. i thnk Rachier and team have it wrong here. gor mahia has alot of money and is losing this money thru’ it’s fingers. why not maximize on what gor has at the moment.
1. gor has fans who a more than willing to pay to watch matches but many including me are being kept off by hooligans. what has the managemnt done besides waving handkerchiefs – NOTHING. my estimation is that gor should easily be raking in 2m every wkend.
2. gor officials entertain corrupt youth squads who ‘check’ the tickets at the gate. besides officials admitting to such practices – NOTHING done.
3. gor has fans like you and me who are ready to buy anything genuine by gormahia. gor officials themselves are the best promoters of the fake brand doned by every other fan.what has gor done to brand itself. – NOTHING.
I would like to go on but if EC cannot get these basic money spinners right i too am convinced that Rachier is simply campaigning. gor should reduce the big number of the EC and bring in more business minded bunch in the committee. but take note of how these officials get into office… this will be hard. but there is a way just stretch ur neck and see how the rugby fraternity have managed their sport with no goverment help. or is this a LUO thing?
JENGA HIO STADIUM. IT IS LONG OVERDUE
yawa
Wacheni siasa hapa. Mr. Chairman, I know and trust you. Jenga stadi.
Azam cannot allow COCACOLA to advertise on their stadia, azam is a soft drink producer, cokes rival in TZ. but good views all the same.
JAKOYO AYIE KODI KABISA, THAT’S WHAT I HAVE ALWAYS SAID, GOR NEEDS TO RUN AS A COMPANY, IF IT MEANS SHARES BEING TRADED AT THE NAIROBI STOCK EXCHANGE SO BE IT , IT NEEDS TO HAVE A CHAIRMAN AND CEO WHO OWNS STAKES IN THE CLUB, THEN SHARES SOLD OUT TO WILLING BUYERS , CTHIS WILL MAKE TE CLUB BUILD IT’S OWN STADIUM AND TAKE CARE OF PLAYER WELFARE WITH CONTRACTS AND ASSURED MEDICAL COVERAGE
I wish everyone would reason like Eric Otieno. Brief and straight to the point. Gor should be a company so that we can buy shares and for us fans to commit completely to the club
the talk its long overdue
Having won the kpl 2013 is excellent but proper preparations are needed ahead of the continental campaign.Let us all that we can do:Friendly matches outside the Country probably Tanzania.Have the necessary documents in place ahead of the fixtures. The December break should not exceed two weeks we are tired of preliminary eliminations in Continental outings.Congratulations.Remember to promote junior team.
