Rave reviews for Gathu / Mutiso

Innocent Mutiso and Anthony Gathu, two players who had until recently been starved of playing time,  have been receiving plaudits of late for their brilliant on the field performance. This comes at a time when many fans started to think that the duo would be offloaded during the mid season transfer window. But their performance of late has riveted the fans, media and the technical staff.

The 19 year old Gathu joined Gor Mahia after having played for Mt Kenya University. According to the Nation,One morning in June last year, Anthony Gathu travelled from his home in Thika to try his luck in achieving his dream of playing for Gor Mahia.

He borrowed bus fare to attend trials at the City Stadium. His first day was disappointing and coach Zdravko Logarusic told him he had no place at K’Ogalo. He pleaded for another chance. The following day he showed up and performed splendidly, the Croatian coach promptly signed him.

On Wednesday, Gathu’s superlative performance left no doubt that he has a great future ahead of him. “This boy has talent, he is still young and we need to take great care of him. He is future material for the national team,” said  assistant coach John “Bobby” Ogolla to the Nation.

Should he continue his upward progression, he could end up being the midfield playmaker that Gor Mahia sorely needs. And once he develops and understanding with the likes of Sserunkuma, Lavatsa, Kiongera and Rama Salim, he could become the key assist man for the team.

Not to be left behind was Innocent Mutiso. During the pre-season, Logarusic appeared far from impressed with the new signing who had been a member of the Kenya under 23 team. Taking advantage of an opportunity that came about due to a rash of injuries, Mutiso acquited himself well against ENPPI on Saturday and picked up where he left off against Ulinzi on Wedensday.

Coach Logarusic was equally impressed by the duo. “I am particularly proud of Gathu and Mutiso, because they are young players and have both not been starting. However, they took up the opportunity and impressed everybody. It is a good thing when you see young players stepping up to control the game and we saw that yesterday.” Logarusic told supersport.

With Gor Mahia taking on league leaders KCB this Sunday at Kasarani, fans will be hoping that the duo can help pry open the stubborn KCB defence which has only conceded one goal in seven games and is the reason they are atop the league standings. This at a time when Kogalo have yet to find their scoring boots.

We will beat KCB; no doubt.

I’m very happy at least all players will ultimately get equal opportunity to showcase their talents. This will now give the technical bench many selection options, thus making our game unpredictable. I do hope come Sunday we will start scoring goals.

Every volley ball team’s success depends on the quality of its booster. The booster controls the game and determines when to set the strikers to attack. It will be a big struggle for a team to win a match if its booster is weak and does not launch attacks. In football that booster are the midfielders. Gaucho is likely to play that role very well. He is young and has a burning ambition to convince the coach beyond any reasonable doubt. His speed agility and confident guarding of the ball can save us from the agony of long passes. Innocent Diana Kethi Mutiso Wiper is a complete player. I believe he will even give a much better performance if fielded against KCB on Sunday. He seems to be settling in steadily. But long passes…I say a big No unless when absolutely necessary.

With Gaucho,Akumu in the midfield, i think Gor are ready to try 4 3 3 formation with either Kevin Omondi or Rama joining them in that mid. Rama’s height end strength do not fovour him to play as a striker but as an attacking midfielder. He can be our iniesta as Akumu play busquet’s role and gathu as xabi, then upfront we can have Wiper, sserunkuma and kiongera, with kiongera on the right, wiper on the left and sserunkuma infront of goal. With such a formation, i believe we’ll be too strong for any team in the TPL.

@Mcosweto you got it right. Rama was a star in Congo united because they used him as the playmaker. It is in the midfield that he belongs.

  • Breaking news is that our math with KCB has been transferred to City Stadium with SSMB security concerns.
All in all I think Gaucho and Mutiso played well and those are the future faces of Gor.

SSMB should stop victimizing K’ogalo fraternity. It is not a crime to have ‘numbers’. Kwani who do they want to host in that big stadium (kasarani) if not Gor Mahia? How wengine hawana numbers, they will silivate for our money as they see us fill estadio de city on Sunday.

  • #6 @Mcosweto unfortunately we are ever victims whether we win or lose. I would like our fans to change strategy. During the ENNPI match some of our fans forcefully opened the inner gate, a situation which was not warranted. It looked bad for an international match. A bottle was even thrown in the pitch. We have lots and lots of patient and reasoning fans but the truth is that we have a minority 0.01% who spoil their name.
The Ulinzi match we won and the soldiers molested the refs but after allowing our players and ref ‘safe’ passage we had no other business in that stadium. Such are the situations trigger-happy policemen love and the news out there will be that gor fans rioted after beating Ulinzi. As a matter of fact no media has written that the soldiers harassed the refs.
We are now playing good footy and let’s not spoil it with negative publicity. The footy is also good for some fans to recover from PES (Post Election Stress)

  • We have got potential thats why.Lets keep our focus and disregard petty talks. We are the reason why KPL is what it is today, we will always be under scrutiny.

  • At least SSMB has clarified that the security issue is more to do with safety and not hooliganism. What a misleading headline from the press. When we talk of security concerns it’s different from safety concerns.
All the same let’s ashame the hooliganism devil wherever we play. We always come out better when we are well-behaved. I would like to see a season free of the intrigues that mess our name every year

@Dan it is unfortunate that the trouble makers don’t read any of these concerns. Infact I am very suspicious of their literacy level and if they subscribe to any true discipline of faith. They have made us a laughing stock. Observation will clearly reveal that the habbit is an annual event. Every year we have to migrate from this stadium to that because a few ‘rotten potatoes’ are unable to find a better way of drawing attention when in a huge gathering of people. Allow me to call it the annual migration that has become another wonder in East Africa.
