Sec Gen discusses club’s financial situation

from the nation

The going has got tougher for cash-strapped Gor Mahia, with the players yet to be paid winning bonuses accrued from three Kenyan Premier League matches.

The club which has been struggling financially, was set to host a private fundraiser Wednesday evening to help them pay players’ April salaries.

In March, the league champions were forced to pay players in two installments.

A number of players who spoke to the Daily Nation Sport on condition of anonymity said they “understand the situation and will abide by whatever decision the club makes.”

“We were paid March salaries in two installments and we are owed winning bonuses accrued from three matches. The management has explained the situation to us and we understand that we don’t have a sponsor. We will continue giving our best on the pitch as they look into the matter,” one of the players said.

CONFIRMED REPORTS

Club secretary-general Chris Omondi confirmed that they owe each player Sh15,000 in winning bonuses.

Despite the financial challenges, Gor has been on a winning streak, beating KCB 3-2 and Thika United 2-1 in the KPL Top Eight tournament. This was followed by another 2-1 win over hosts Ulinzi Stars and 3-0 thrashing of Muhoroni Youth at the City Stadium in the league fixtures.

From the four wins, the players have only been paid winning bonuses from the KCB match. Each player is entitled to Sh5,000 in bonuses for every match won. The club has 25 players, bringing the total amount of money owed to Sh375,000.

The tough financial situation has forced the club to use Tuzo-branded training kits long after the expiry of the team’s sponsorship deal with the dairy firm.

At Wednesday’s training session at City Stadium, the squad of 18 trained under coach Bobby Williamson in Tuzo-branded kits.

“We find ourselves in a mess. I know it is unprofessional to use those kits but we don’t have a choice. We are yet to acquire new kits and we can only use what we have,” Omondi said.

Head coach Williamson declined to comment on the matter. The club’s Under-19 side has also been using Tuzo-branded kits.

Meanwhile, the Daily Nation has learnt that Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has stepped in and purchased an away kit for the team. The club does not have an away kit and would have found itself in an tricky situation when they visit Sony Sugar at the Awendo Green Stadium this weekend.

Omondi said the kits were to be delivered Wednesday evening in time for Saturday’s tie. Last Thursday, Gor launched a funds drive and fans were asked to send donation to MPesa paybill number 350100. (READ: Club reaches out to fans to fund soaring wage bill) Sh249,000 had been raised by Tuesday evening.

Moneys owed to SSMB

According to futaa.com, Sports Stadia Management Board (SSMB) has released the actual of figures of the amount four Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clubs owe it.

KPL champions Gor Mahia owe the board Ksh 418,000, a figure accrued from the two CAF Champions League matches against US Bitam and Esperance while AFC Leopards is expected to settle a Ksh 255,615 debt accrued from KPL matches hosted at the Nyayo National Stadium.

KCB FC and Mathare United each owe SSMB Ksh 30,000. The board recently sent an appeal to the KPL clubs to clear the debts.

SSMB is a parastatal whose mandate is to manage and maintain sports facilities, market the facilities for maximum utilization and revenue generation.

  • The truth must be told Ambrose Rachier is a “SLEEPING CHAIRMAN”, where was he when the club was not remitting the KRA taxes. Everybody knows that you’ve to remit your returns even if you are ZERO RATED you must remit that ZERO return for you to be compliant.

KRA is not asking for anything new from Gor Mahia as a club, what KRA is asking from Gor is where are the BOOKS? Rachier produced the books so that they can be audited by KRA for us to be cleared. Produce the books please
As a matter of facts KRA is just helping Gor Mahia fraternity to put their house in order so that they can do some semblance of accountability. For contribution to this Mpesa account let’s contribute and save the situation as it is. Just contribute and forget about it because you’ll never hear anything about it once the current problems are solved.

  • By the way what’s Gor Mahia is doing to recover the money paid from the failed acquisition of the Zambian player? The office is silent about this, George Bwana and the treasurer should be forced to pay this money because it was through their incompetence that we lost this amount. Let them be taken to court of law, found guilty of incompetence they should be auctioned. This way we will reduce the belief of Gor Mahia club as a ‘milk cow’ fore the ‘FUNNY OFFICIALS’ like Bwana.

I don’t like the idea of selling the club to a strategic investor. This club just needs an accountable office and money will pour in.

If called upon, I will donate training jerseys.

    1. being told not to blame others when there are office holders to blame
    2. why is ade going for trials to a team that gor mahia can actually beat? trials!!
    3. bailing out your silly administration with the mpesa fund drive instead of forcing their resignition
    4. accepting the situation where the biggest club in kenya and the only cecafa club with a continental title to have no kit sponsor..ati donation of kits
    5. absolutely powerless members union, look at ahly’s membership structure or cs sfaxien’s socios
    6. your club training and playing at a sub standard facility yet you dream of greater things. where is the technical aspect of the club
    7. all major player transfer issues at gor mahia must always have something wrong.
    8. paying to attend the matches yet the books of accounts aren’t there-they even cheated you off gate collections last year.
    9. expecting to attract sponsors yet supersport is capable of twisting your arm to broadcast your caf cl games for FREE
    10. your club never releases club statements, it is so and so speaking

The unfortunate thing is that some of us for unknown reasons are discouraging well-wishers to contribute but at the same time are demanding for accountability and results. If you are one of those please let us rescue the team as you wait for things to get in place. As it is now we will continue contributing as we DEMAND for changes in the way the club is being run.
Now that passion we exhibit in the stadium and in the field we must use it to contribute as we as for answers which unfortunately might never come

K’Ogalo official reveals to Goal that away uniform purchased by Nairobi governor Evans Kidero is small in size hence they will use Tuzo branded kit

Gor Mahia troubles continue unabated and the latest is their inability to procure on time an away kit for Sunday’s Kenya Premier League match against Sony Sugar at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

Nairobi governor Evans Kidero gave the team Sh100, 000 to enable them buy uniform but an official, who was charged with the responsibility did not get the right size.

Gor Mahia Secretary General Chris Omondi has revealed to Goal that they will now be forced to use their Tuzo branded white kit but black out their former sponsors Tuzo.

Tuzo pulled out from sponsoring the club last month and they have also been recently hit by a Sh118million tax demand from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

“Nairobi governor gave us money to buy uniform but the official, who took up responsibility did not get right size. It is too late to change it now because it was bought from Dubai.

“We have decided to use our white kit and black out the Tuzo logo because they are no longer our sponsors.” Omondi confirmed that the new kit will now be available from next Wednesday.

    @@@@@@@
We are realy let down by this office. Must everything go wrong. The new team are now quiet but when everything comes back on track you will see them quoted everywhere. This is the time we need leadership including on matters financial. Is it true that all the monies we have been collecting nobody has ever bothered to keep books? God forbid. By the way why is it so hard for us Africans to resign when we think we have let our followeres down? Must force be always used to achieve results?

I think Gor Mahia fans have decided not to corporate. Ideally because if only 1 million fans contributed 100/- each (very affordable) then we would be having a whole 100 Million. Tuzo used to give us less that 30 million per year so that means we will have gone past the mark.

Anyway, we are now in a fix and I have seen those I thought could help like Jakoyo telling us to pull out of all competitions. It means those I am thinking are true/loyal fans might be far from that.

The conditions the fans are giving to office are like someone is drunk and has gotten an accident then you say ‘I cannot help because the person was drunk…’ That is too bad.

Anyway let us help clear this mess and then put our house in order. Once we have contributed, fans should demand for the resignation of all the current officials and call for a fresh elections.

  • Now you get how serious the EC is bent on killing Gor Mahia Club. Here is a situation where a Good Samaritan has donated money for away uniform and another fool ends up buying unfitting sizes. How hard is it for official to carry OR check and counter the right sizes of the players. Whoever was tasked to buy the uniforms is not coming from Mars he is an existing official. He must be held accountable and suspended.

please it is time for gor mahia to release players who are not willing to stay at this time for us to streamline this club.A CLUB OF GOR MAHIA CALLIBRE CANNOT AFFORD AWAY JERSIES WITH ALL THE FAN BASE …..?NOOOOOOO…Please we cant go this way ,please am ready for gor mahia to go back to division one and then come back to the league later but we streamline this club.please i cant sustain this shame .Wan onagi ok wahero wichkuot kamae,ok ane ka adhi Nakuru,i will contribute the 2000/- that i had saved for going to Nakuru i cant see gor mahia of all the teams playing with the jerseys of ex-sponsors.

The moment we put our pride aside will be the time we progress. What’s the need of buying a mercedes and packing it in a rented house or a grass-thatched hut. Playing with blacked-out TUZO uniforms does not take anything away from us. After all everyone knows we are in a crisis. I once heard of a rally driver who had a pancture and filled the the tyre with grass and went on to finish/win the rally.. Should that driver have retired because of shame? For those asking for accountability because of shame why can’t they refuse to pay taxes to the govt. unti security and corruption issues are resolved. The thing should be to up our request for accountability as we keep the vehicle in motion. Personally , I believe this is the right time for true fans to be counted as we demand for accountability. Let no one think that if Gor goes to Div 1 the interest we have now will be there. Ask Ingwe on that experience. How many will go to Dnadora, Makongeni or Kabete to see the team playing at 2:00 pm on a dusty, insecure pitch?

  • I agree with Dan Original’s sentiments. All so called fans do is talk, talk, talk. Criticize, criticize, criticize.Contributions are trickling in very slowly….not as expected judging buy the expectations of many. we only support when the going is good. And its for sure that if Gor goes to a Lower division most of us will not attend matches. lets be real. The current situation where players are being paid salaries in instalments will be the beginning of their exodus. Come on, Kogalo fraternity, asking for shs 100 for a good cause is not asking for much. Shame on us.
