Williamson applauds team, sets eyes on City Stars

The Scottish-born coach says it was evident the match referee Liberian Gerry Yekeh was hell bent on ensuring the match ended in favour of their opponents but an inspired performance from goalkeeper and team captain Jerim Onyango confined US Bitam to a 1-0 lead which forced post-match penalties after the scores stood at 1-1 on aggregate.
“It was a real test of character and we had expected such kind of biased officiating. But the boys played their hearts out. It was a great show of character and technical maturity,” said Williamson.
“For a team to go to such an environment and come out victorious, it tells you about the level of maturity in this squad,” said Williamson.
Better performance
“But there is still a lot to be done and we shall continue working hard to get better performance. Our next opponents are seasoned campaigners in the continent so we need to prepare better.”
Williamson says Bitam’s opening goal was clean but the free kick awarded in the build up to the goal was suspect. Further, the first penalty early in the second half was questionable though the second one would have passed.
During the game, Gor Mahia played the last quarter of an hour one man down after David Owino was red carded for questioning the referee’s decision.
Gor went on to hold their opponents and won the game 4-2 on post match penalties with Onyango saving two spot kicks.
Williamson says his attention now shifts to Thursday’s league match against City Stars.
“The league match has come too soon but I have told the boys there is no time to rest or celebrate our weekend success,” says Williamson.
Gor Mahia arrived on Monday night from Gabon.
City Stars will not be an easy customer for Gor Mahia. The Kawangware-based side has beefed its squad with former Gor Mahia players George Midenyo, Moses Odhiambo, Kevin Ochieng and David Otieno.
Their new coach Robinson Ofomko is oozing with confidence ahead of their first match.
How I wish Karuiki, Bataro, “Kompany” & Oboya had made the trip 2 Gabon instead of the 4 or so additional EC members. The experience would have been more beneficial 2 the team & a true gelling opportunity especially now that we picked out a number of cards/knocks & they may b called into action sooner rather than later. Remember Loga insisting that even though Akumu had been red carded last year against Re-Union twas beneficial 2 have him travel…….
In the late 88’s there was Jaffer Mwidau who.
step in whenever Makamu/Bassanga were injured & somehow manage 2 do the job.
As 4 Jerry’s suddenly acquired penalty saving skills who cn deny that the mystical/magical spirit of Gor Mahia does now & again manifest itself. That said Jagoal is a good keeper & now should only avoid unnecessary high balls upfield.
On our style of play/players’ physique aerial soccer will not do us good rather ball possession & clinical finishing r the key. BW tactical abilities& good results in the next 2 matches..
will determine the mood & confidence with which fans & maybe players approach the Esperance rematch. Convincing wins + fair ticket pricing & am sure the 12th man will turn out 2 do his part & don’t forget we have the magicial spirit of Gor Mahia. You never know.
I said by game 5 we’ll have known the direction of our season. Now that the sponsorship chickens have come home 2 roosted what plans do the 11 EC members have on the way forward we as bloggers have offered enough good suggestions.
FInally am delighted that we qualified, great teams can generally evolve from such high pressure situations. But that little thought is still etched at the back of my mind yes we qualified but did Gor “win” or was it bcoz Bitam “lost”. WILL ESPERANCE ALSO “LOSE”
SOLUTION WE MUST START WINNING
JOB WELLDONE BOBBY,NATUENDELEA HIVO HIVO !IF AT ALL YOU SEE THAT LIBERIAN GERRY YEKEH,MWAMBIE POLE SANA.I’LL ENSURE THAT SEE HIM DURING MY TRIP TO LIBERIA IN THE CAUSE OF THE YEAR.
Now that our sponsor is chickening out we need to work extra hard to get another. To my surprie it seems like as usual the EC has been caught flat-footed on this. We should be always talking to potential sponsors whether we have one in place or not. This would entail us having more than one sponsor at a time with one potentially able to come on board when one leaves.
Otherwise I hope this will not dampen our spirit. It’s also now time for all our fans to genuinely and without any temptations pay up the gate fee.
By the way what happened to the SACCO? This would be a more independent and stable way to have our club to be financially stable
seems like the TM F.Ouna is turning to be the lose mouth gor does not need. from accusing ref about bias officiating to rating gor as inderdogs against esperance. why does he have to blabber on how gor can only hope to do it’s best. why not come out with a winning mentality. probably now half the team already believe they will loose against esperance.
‘we will give it our best shot’!!!
what a kind of TM is this guy? so what does the TM know that the coach does not know? most of these gor players want to play in europe, how else can they be noticed if not by beating the likes of esperance. you should be telling these guys esperance WILL GO DOWN.
Dinga check comments if they are suitable for posting for ppl who are believe to be real mahia fans to read ! dont let us down , go to hell en support the division 2 league !
Yes Dinga, Esperance will go down , they will. They are also not that Esperance that we knew in 1987.Kogalo has the quality to shoot down any team that comes underrating them, see where is Bitam? They really boasted before the matches.
On sponsors it will be very sad when as a big team we revert to playing in plain jerseys where other smaller teams have more than one sponsor on their jerseys. Desparation will definitely catch up with playing unit. Where are our big Boys and Girls? Even Dumu-Zas as in mid nineties?
Now I THINK THE SO CALLED HOOLIGANS WHO BOOST OF forcing their way to the stadium the so called die hard GOR FANS(HOOLIGANS) sponsor the team because they r the people always shouting louder how GOR can do without the sponsor n yet they dont even pay fore the gate charges, bure kabisa nyinyi
Guys, the truth is that we are the underdogs in this game. It’s all a matter of ranking snd esperance has of late been doing better than us. But that doesn’t mean that they are going to beat us
Can somebody throw light on the Gor Mahia Playbill number 350100?
Comrades, what is it with our sponsors? Are they withdrawing?
I’ve seen DTBank’s logo on Gor’s official site. Anything that we might not be aware of?
Now that afc leopards wameenda sare,sa kesho wanataka kukam kuharibu game yetu, kwa jina ya hooligans, especially, disi whu likes hate speech, all the best kogalo..timbe duto ywakni ,yani inyemo maa, cjui mboro ndyo kubwa? ama moral boyz..gor 3: cityst 0
