Williamson confirms meeting

Former Uganda Cranes coach Bobby Williamson has confirmed he met Gor Mahia officials in Nairobi on Thursday to discuss a possible move to handle Kenya’s top club.

The Scot tactician has exclusively confirmed to Goal that ‘it will be a pleasure working with the top club if and when a deal is concluded.’

“It is true I met Gor Mahia officials in Nairobi and we discussed my intended move to the club. It would be a pleasure to work with the club which is one of the biggest in Kenya.

“Gor Mahia is a top club with a massive following and any coach would be interested to be part of that family. I have been following keenly the club’s activities while in Uganda and I know they won a double and were on the verge of winning the league last season.

“I will definitely be looking forward to a new challenge working with a club and not a national team,” Williamson said in reference to his five year stint with Uganda Cranes.

A top Gor Mahia official also confirmed meeting with the Scot but insisted that there was no conclusion to the talks though a two year deal has been offered to the coach to consider.

“We had a closed door meeting with him for a better part of Thursday but did not conclude the talks since there are a few things to be sorted out. During the talks we offered him a two year contract for him to consider.

“We expect to conclude the talks by Saturday,” said the official who asked not to be named since the matter has not been concluded.

Gor Mahia are desperately looking for a replacement for former coach Zradvko Logarusic, who was sacked for allegedly absconding duty.

Williamson lost Uganda job in April after handling the Cranes for close to five years winning four Cecafa Cup titles and twice missed taking the country to the finals of Africa Nations Cup by a whisker in (2012 and 2013).

  • Why are we so fond of overreacting? Why can’t we just be fans and stop reacting to media speculation and yet we have very little information.

I said it before and i will repeat, we have the best EC in this league. They simply do what we (fans) want. It is upon us (fans) to want the best and we will get it. Now we want JBO, some others want Williamson, others still dream of Loga. Don’t we expect the EC to act as confused as we are?

Even on player signings, we (fans) can never agree on whom we think is best. Some say Oboya, others say hell no! Don’t we expect the EC to behave the same.

We need to reduce the number of decision makers in the next election. Otherwise just like in our games where we have thousands of coaches, we will never know peace or success any time soon.

  • A game of soccer has three possible outcomes anD so let’s brave ourselves for any of them. By all stds JBO is a good cOach. The only issue is whether he can wither the numerous ‘noise’ from all the different quotas

@7,Dan…..being soccer fans,we all know that in a game of soccer, there can only be 3 outcomes. We dont need reminders for that!!

However, what fans want is the 3 points at stake. We dont want to travel to coast and come back pointless. We are in a competition here and we want to win the league thats why the 3 pts are of utmost importance to us!!!!

As much as we must accept whatever outcome, our foremost wish is that the team does not drop points!!!that is why we shall be at mbaraki to support the team to carry the day!!

I agree with those who r saying that JBO is a good coach but he cannot contain the pressure that goes with being the coach of Gor mahia. It is also a well known fact that the hottest seat in kenya/africa is being the head coach of K’ogalo. so let JBO cont. as ass.coach and hire Bob Williamson as Gor coach bcos of his record in Uganda.

Whoever is coach at Kógalo has become a real issue more specifically the skin colour. I see the Sec Gen has clearly stated they will go for a foreigner with a big lean towards a European.

Now that the major problem remains ec interference with the playing that only a white man can resist, why can’t we (EC) just stop meddling in professional things we do not know how? And concentrate on building the club’s finances and structures? Truly it doesn’t matter who is recruited as the new man will also just leave under similar or different circumstances.

Handling a national outfit is a different ball game compared to a “COMMUNITY” club and to be precise a club whose originality is deeply rooted from a never satisfied , overzealous and over demanding community like GOR MAHIA. Bob williamson AWESMAKE.!

Sincerely speaking, due to manipulative nature of EC, over-demanding nature of us fans and players who keep on straying from time to time (discipline-related issues), Gor Mahia has outgrown local coaches. Let Bobby Williamson take charge. After Logarusic (foreign coach) has taken us from relegation position to title contenders, some us fans are now thinking we can do it on our own. Let us look at the year when we last lifted the Kenya Premier League trophy and then you will let me know what type of a coach GM needs.

This guy (Bobby Williamson) has transformed Uganda National team from nothing to miles ahead of other countries. Let’s hope the deal will go through.

…..With all due respect, Bobby Ogola MUST move and get a club to develop his career to the next level as a coach than waste time at this team growing white air while WHITES make a kill of earning BIG SALARIES equivalent to 7 times what he is earning!
