Gor Mahia coach Bobby Williamson has admitted that the team will miss suspended defender David ‘Calabar’ Owino when they play Esperance in Saturday’s Caf Champions League match at Nyayo Stadium.
The defender was red carded during their preliminary match against US Bitam in Gabon making him ineligible to take face the North African side in the first round fixture.
Williamson said: “He has been very key and influential for us but there is nothing we can do in his absence. We have to go back to the options we have to help us navigate through the hurdle,” the Scott told Goal.
In the absence of Owino, Ugandan Israel Emuge is likely to step in. Williamson remained upbeat that K’Ogalo will register a convincing result to take to Tunisia.
“I am optimistic we will do well. We have a good team and our start to the season has been brilliant. We have played four matches and conceded only one goal in open play. That is something positive and we look forward to continue with the same form.
“We know that there has been bad history as far as North African opponents are concerned but we have what it takes to make history of our own. It is possible. They are a tough side, but so are we.”
Williamson is hoping that keeper Jerim Onyango, who injured his shoulder over the weekend, will be available for the clash. He is also encouraged that Patrick Oboya and Kevin ‘Ade’ Omondi are back in full fitness and will be ready to face Esperance.

In the previous article,sylvester@18 has urged Gor fans to buy all 25000 tickets…..while this article states that there will only be 22000 tickets on sale.
Does sylvester know something that we dont know…?perhaps!!!!
Correction; its 22,000 tickets. @Oswozo, am sorry for that and thanks.

I have been watching Esperance videos online. These guys are very clinical and very precise finishers. If you give them an ounce of space watafunga. They only need 1 or 2 chances. Defence beware.
90mins without “King” David!
Will “King” Solomon (Nasio)/ “Hulk” Emuge fill the void?
“King” Solomon reminds me of Jaffer Mwidau (was his nickname “Akuru”?) who anxiously but ably played in K’galo’s defence whenever Makamu/Bassanga were ruled out.
Who will play sweeper, Teddy or will Musa be switched( remember Jua Kali).
Will Flava do a Anthony “Suzuki” Ndolo on Esperance while Obwoge “Dawos” them. Will Jagoal continue with the “Kamoga” penalty saving skills.
Am I seeing shades of ’87?
Not forgeting BW & Sir. John “Bobby” Ogola tactically outsmarting the Esperance TB, Jack Johnson/ Maurice “Sonyi” Ochieng style.
Again Thank-you Legends for that great victory & all the best to the current squad/TB.
Mystical legend Gor Mahia will this be another famous victory?
The bigger they come, the harder they fall! Comparisons aside,we have a team that is capable of delivering the desired results.
What is Esperance after all, just a football club like Kogalo.
WE WILL BEAT THEM!
I know we all adore a Owino. But such have to happen. A great team must ha ve backups. I forsee Oluoch manning the position effectively.
