Williamson happy with clean sheet

Courtesy of goal.com

Coach Bobby Williamson has said the most important thing was that the team was able to keep a clean sheet.

“It is very important that we do not concede goals and for the second match in a row, that is positive. We played really well and I am happy with the result. Though we are not there yet, that is a result that we can work on and build further.”

The win helped K’Ogalo open up a four point lead over second placed Thika United at the top of the 16-team table standings and they still have a game in hand.

Discipline

The Scot tactician was incensed by Mungai Kiongera’s celebration against Stima after he ripped off his shirt to earn what he termed a ‘silly’ yellow card

Gor Mahia coach Bobby Williamson has warned Gor Mahia players that they risk watching the team from the stands due to indiscipline and suspensions.

Williamson spoke as he was angered by striker Paul Mungai Kiongera’s celebration after scoring Gor Mahia’s second goal against Western Stima on Sunday.

Kiongera ripped off his jersey to celebrate his third goal of the season and this angered the former Uganda Cranes tactician, who described the celebration as stupid.

“It was very silly and stupid and I completely do not like it. Such easy and unwarranted bookings end up hurting the team when such players get suspended.

“I am warning them that anyone who gets silly suspensions will sit out of the team until such a time when the player who replaces them is unable to play,” Williamson told Goal after the match.

Baraza Lauds Gor Mahia

Western Stima coach Mike Baraza has lauded Gor Mahia for their play on Sunday.

“We lost to a very good team and in such games you just have to admit that you lost to the better side,” he said. “They were all over us in the first half and scored two very good goals even before we could really settle.

“From then on it was always going to be a hard task because we had to attack them and open ourselves up. It could have been four or five goals in the end, they were the better side. They are my favourites for the title. They have two very good coaches on the bench and international players all over. It is hard to see anyone beating them.”

  • As Baraza puts it, K’Ogalo is the favorite team to win the league. “Everything being constant……. Yawa!!!!!1:0 against Bandari 2:00 against W/Stima next Should be 3:0, 4:0, 5:0,and we finish with 15:0 against Home Boys at Tok Komwanda

  • Baraza when you say you lost to a good team our response in song and dance always is “GOR taya wa’ngni meny jiduto” AND the anthem “………..Gor timbe duto ywakni” AND when you say “they (GOR) are your favourite team for the title our response is respectful in song and dance “Gor Taya wa’ngni meny ji duto”

Ooh Laa la ” EARLY GOALS CARRIED THE DAY “.

My take is simple and straight. GOR were the best in the first half but STIMA outplayed us in the second half especially in the mid field and the flanks. Our substitutes also were less impressive. I wonder why our coaches should not have seen the need to play speedy players like Akumu,Sserekuma and odhiambo instead of the sluggish and sloopy KEVO,ANGUYO and OBOYA.

May be the tactics was to fall back in the second half and let them enjoy possession and then hit them on counter-attack but i would have preferred to continue with our attacking football and pinning them in the box since their goalkeeping and defending was suspect to some kind of school-boys mistakes that could allow us reap in more goals periodically.

KIONGERA has earned two consecutive yellow cards due to “UNCOUTH” goal-celebration and it is good the coach has noticed this un-professional behavior. This accumulative and silly cautions will haunt his playing time when the team need him most. That is why the BALOTELI’S of this world will always cause ITALY at the 11th hour when the team is need to be full strength.

    Trailerman how have you been?
I agree with you entirely that, the two yelloy cards by K29, were very unnecessary, and to say the least, childish.
Bob odiero, was so exasperated, and angry and you could see him gesturing to ‘why is he (kiongera), doing that?’I know that the boy got a good ‘hair drier’,in the changing room, and that was the the last of the ‘uncouth’ goal celebration from kiongera.
On you referring to P30 (oboya), as ‘sluggish’, that am not so sure of.

A good game it was, atleast we removed the feet off the gas pedals after the 2nd goal, (we are used to doing that after the 1st goal). So that is an improvement of sorts I would say, though there is still so much room for improvement.
The introduction of erick ochieng in midfield seems to have stabilised the midfield. And woith rama playing behind the striker (s), where he has a free role and he can ‘roam’about, I think things are improving in the midfiel.Atleast we can now string 3, 4, 5,pasees in the opponents final third. If they will let him here long enough and do as he says, bob odiero will take us very far, not only locally but regionally and continentally, I just hope that nyamweya dont come for him this soon, coz he surely will come for him.

On the muthurwa issue, 24hrs later, I havent seen any name yet or family members coming forward to claim their relative, so I dont think that any life was lost. But not to underscore the seriousness of the fracas, I think the hawkers and the fans MUST find a way of co existing.
The hawkers must do their business and their properties protected, while the fans must celebrate/mourn in peace. This is very easy.It only becomes difficult if either party wants to fight someone else’ war.Lets not fight anyones’ war.Lets go watch football, sing/cry to town and go to our homes.
For your information, we also have ‘our people’, doing business in muthurwa, and we also have ‘their people’, supporting kogallo. So live and lets live!

@The Trailer you are absolutely right. We lost our stranglehold on the match in the second half, however the defense and the partisan fans made all the difference. In total we collected 5 yellow cards some of which were due to the over-zealousness of the referee. Special thanks should go to Rama. Actually it is his hunger for a big win that earned him his yellow card.

I look at our current team and I am reminded of the days when we would flatten Scarlet 3-0 or 2-0 despite fielding its greats like Nahashon Mahila, Charles Odero, Jack Sihul, Patrick Amin Omuse and the eccentric goalkeeper Washington Muhanji. The days when Ali Kurwa, James Spinks, Akama, Okombo, Waga in Kisumu Posta (thank you Albert Kosero for your April post) were making measly meat of Efusi at every opportunity. We are headed back there and the team is coming up with every match. As for King David, it is either we start preparing for life without him next season or Gor Mahia should grow fast to a level that we can hold our own against the bigger teams that are likely to offer our good players better terms. This however, may be a pipe dream if the very fans who are expected to support this community club financially are the ones hell-bent on forcing free entry into the stadium as witnessed yesterday (and even on Wednesday at Nyayo our not being the home team in the Wednesday match not withstanding).

I think God has blessed us again this season. He rescued us last season when we were strugling in relegation zone and brought us Zdravco Logarosic and we almost won triple. This year God rescued us again when Logarusic abundoned K’ogalo and God brought a high profile Coach .Sir Bobby Williamson is the best coach in the region. He is an experienced coach with accolades. We r headed to where we should be.He has made strikers to find scoring easy.B4 he came, strikers were just shooting blanks.Go K’ogalo go.

The best comment today is from @Arrumtiddi i.e we also have ‘our people’, doing business in muthurwa, and we also have ‘their people’, supporting kogallo. So live and lets live! Some of us hell-bent on fighting with hawkers who are their fighting for? You go fighting hawkers while wearing a GM jersey when the hawker is in normal clothing. Who is stupid in that case when you are literally a sitting duck?
Thanks @Kosero for your input in this case which can easily derail our Grand match to the title. Let’s humble ourselves, win the league and after that those who want to go to war can organise themselves for that while leaving the ‘real’ fans alone

2.I really like BW’s sober approach on K29. From the COSAFA Zimbabwe & Lesotho have the attacking midfield talent that GM needs in CECAFA/CAF.
3.Regarding these stage managed attacks @ Muthurwa /highway on our FANS lets organize a PEACEFUL PROTEST MARCH TO CENTRAL,KAMKUNJI,MUTHURWA POLICE STATIONS DEMANDING POLICE PROTECTION/ACTION. Lets bring international attention to this issue.

  • contd.. Its a big failure on the EC to be unable to deal with forced/free entry by thugs not fans. The club loses revenue crucial to pay bonuses, retain players&coaches etc.The archives hinted that this may even be orchestrated by officials.I.e WHAT IS THE ROLE OF NUMEROUS STEWARDS,WHY NOT HIRE POLICE OR SECURITY FIRMS ETC. Y COME TO THE VENUE WITHOUT A TICKET EXPECTING FREE ENTRY BUT REMEMBER AT ONE TIME EC TOOK OVER THE PRINTING OF TICKETS. EC WE CAN’T HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS AT EVERY GAME 4 2YRS

My input here is about ticketing and the manning of gates.
After past disasters on matters ticketing,it was recommended that tickets for matchday be sold in advance at selected venues to avoid overzealous fans from crowding the ticket sale points on match day. This was done but we have gone back to the old dark days of buying tickets at the venue on matchdays!!

As witnessed on matchday, sunday, there was alot of mayhem and disorder in geting this tickets. The overcrowding, pushing and shoving is a recipe for disaster!!!

Secondly, the gates(sadly 1 each for center stand and 1 for russia)are poorly manned in terms of overcrowding and alot of jostling and pushing!!

Why is it so difficult for the EC to get a more organised team to run and manage the entry into the stadium.Must we be pushed,shoved,pick-pocketed and roughed up to come watch a game?this are Gor games that have huge numbers…..get more organised….open up more gates and get enough security personnel to manage the huge crowd or risk losing life, property and revenue by continuing to be disorganized and clueless on ticketing and entry into the stadium!!!!!!!!!

  • This maverick kind of behaviour by Kiongera MUST nipped at the bud right now. Against Bandari in Mombasa, he got a yellow card for coming back to the field of play without permission from either the referee or her assistant. Against Chemelil he got a yellow for unveiling a banner and running to the fans, while against W/Stima he got a yellow fr ripping off his shirt. All these were unwarranted yellow cards and he is now 2 yellow cards Away from suspension. He gets booked in any two of the Karuturi, Tusker, City Stars or AFC matches and he automatically misses the NEXT match. The coach must now sit all his players down And read them the RIOT ACT. Failure to do this, some players may CAUSE the team the TITLE. It is my humble prayer tht the Coach gives every fit player an equal fighting chance to get into the 1st eleven. I wnted to see Gaucho, Emuge, D. Otieno and K14 given a run in the team. As for the nay sayers, its no longer Le Pastre’s opinion tht Gor has the BEST team in the League but its the opinion of the majority. Listen to coach Baraza pouring praise on GM, their dominant display. The way GM controlled and dictated play. We were never in danger of losing tht match. Thts wht we call measured and a tactical performance. Manchester United’s 20th EPL title was won courtesy of a squad depth tht was so big. They could do a lot of rotation without affecting the team balance and performance. Its only Gor who currently enjoys the luxury of having a team teeming up with quality players Across all the departments. We can be able to field two different teams of equal ability in the KPL ans still compete favourably wth the rest.

I felt Gor Mahia would appeal the yellow card Kiongera earned in Mombasa. That card was totally undeserved. Kiongera innocently stood by the touchline until the referee gestured to him to get in, to which he dully obliged. However, the ref Damaris Kimani somehow forgot a few minutes later that it is her who allowed the player back. This was just but one of the many erratic calls that this otherwise quite competent referee made on that day. All in all as has been said, it is these unnecessary cards that may hurt us.

Coach is right and every player has to understand that any silly behaviour cannot be tolerated, it does not matter that you are the shinning star of the team. The way Kiongera did what he did reflected very poorly on him, he went out to deliberately get the yellow card and he did the same against Bandari and Chemelil!!!!He may miss certain crucial games in the near future. The next matches are Karuturi, Tusker, City Stars, AFC, we need to win at least two of these and we need to be very careful with such behaviour which may cost us dearly.Dan,Dan,Dan Ssere where are you?? Stand up and score just one goal, grab your place in the team.

@ Jathur gi ji, I humbly but honestly beg to differ with your post above that we need to win at least two out the next four matches. Then we should as well quit this TITLE winning mentality of “GINI MARWA” or “GINI WASE LAL GO”.

We need to WIN ALL THE REMAINING MATCHES, though each at a time and wrap up [“WAKAO”] this thing [ “GINI”], the earliest time possible. And so is the SLOGAN of “GINI WESAKAO- DONGE”

If you ask ME how I would like IT to BE in the next four matches well then, IT IS LIKE K’ogalo should be winning while the rest should either play for a draw or keep on throwing a way points at will until we are declared CHAMPS.

  • That I may not be-labor the Sunday game with a lot more comments preceding mine, I would also commend the Gor family at the Stadium for their support. Though it looks like when we are enjoying the game, the songs seems to die down and within my opinion, it tends to create a dull atmosphere. My appeal is therefore to those who have willingly given themselves to leading the cheers, never to relent. They probably need to take turns and in this way no one will burn out.
