Williamson slams poor defending

Gor Mahia’s Scottish coach Bobby Williamson has blamed his team for conceding ‘cheaply’ but vows to help side bounce back to winning ways in next league match. He said they spurned their chances and defended poorly on the other end, but keeps hope that his side will recover.

“It was not a good performance from us today (Sunday). We had our chances and we did not take them, AFC Leopards’ had theirs and they took them. I feel we did not fight enough but I still have hope we can recover,” Williamson told goal.com.

“We defended poorly, pulled our line too high and ended up paying for it. I think that is a problem we need to address.

“I know we will bounce back. It is now my duty as a coach and a motivator to get the boys back on their feet. We have a very good crop of players with enthusiasm and good professionalism. This is a slip but we will fight back to get to our best.” Williamson added

A deeper look at the situation might reveal that the AFC technical bench looked at Gor Mahia’s weaknesses in defending and found ways to exploit them.

There is a need for stability

Also this past week, the AFC officials have been leaking stories to the media about trying to pry players from Gor Mahia. AFC were doing this because they know that Gor Mahia is in a precarious financial situation and that players might be tempted to leave.  If their aim was to destabilize and unsettle the Gor Mahia camp, they may have succeeded. Much has been said about which players did not play well. But ultimately it comes down to getting a modicum of financial stability. Which is why the EC must work with expediency to resolve the standoff with the KRA. It has been well over two months now. The negligence which caused this problem to begin with is being exhibited by the club officials again and this time the results could be dramatic.

Hats off to the fans

On another note, kudos to the fans who showed up at the stadium to support the team and left peaceably even when the results did not go their way. This kind if behaviour is the way forward. We urge Gor Mahia officials to highlight this fact in the media because the media will not mention any positives about Gor Mahia fans.

  • Winning is about Tactics, tactics, tactics. NOT flukes…..Efusi coach is very smart, I like this Dutch guy…you see he deployed shikokoti and imbambala in holding position and with their height , strength and complementary chemistry in the deepened defence role they muzzled the traditional long balls from gor Mahia defence to sserenkuma. Ikenna with his height , physique and good ball control kept our central defenders busy doing nothing !

It worked and hence the score line !

Coach next time, please do your homework on your opponents otherwise winning will be a fluke!!!!

  • Bring in Omino from Chemelil to strengthen our defence. Humphrey Mieno is a free agent, we need to bring him in to strengthen our midfield too. We need strong powerful players in all positions, not the weaklings we currently have. It was embarassing to observe that in each position, the AFC player was towering over the Gor Mahia opposite number, and was physically stronger. Don’t our players eat well these days? Peter Dawo and Paul Ochieng’ must be wondering to themselves.

Now we observe that the Ingwe coach did well by having Shiko in the midfield but when BW does that with Owino,Baba, Eric, Shakava and Emuge in Gor we call it defensive formation. We don’t have to be physically strong to be competitive but we need to be smarter.

  • Thanks Admin. 4 hitting the nail on the head “Unless & Until the EC sorts/stabilizes the financial situation @ the club then we’re simply grasping at straws”.
After that stability is restored the TB should know that any team with strong wing play always outsmarts GM it started with KCB last year, AFC in the Gotv final, perfected by Esperance & now AFC again.
Simply stretch GM defense then cut back the ball & bingo goal since our mid/GK simply chase the ball blindly unware of opponents movements.

  • Jakoyo, all over sudden BW is tactless yet with him in charge GM has secured 6 straight win. He is tactless yet GM is top of the league. The tactful coaches have their teams trailing GM in the standings. Wewe ni kigeugeu. All this time you were quietly enjoying the results and uttered zero. Perepere miingi!! Your ideas are good for reading but can’t be applied anywhere!!

  • @pmawengo, you obviously don’t understand football……what we are saying it takes tactics to win games, games are not won by fluke. Offcourse there is luck but You have to read your opponents and deploy the most effective combination that yield the results……tusker beat mathare united 3-0 with ten men, was this a fluke ?

Maybe our 6 wins in a row was a fluke, I don’t know perhaps time will tell. In football you can win 6 in a row and loose the next 10 . All am saying BW needs to do more in terms of reading his opponents and we will start winning games convincingly and not blaming the defence. Defence is the last line in football, if it not working then something somewhere has gone wrong!!!!!!!!!…………could it be tactics? Or maybe is just players have not been paid for too long…

Why blame Bobby Williamson? I think it was expected we would either draw or lose to AFC because going by history, we have never beaten them when Bobby Williamson is in charge. The last time we beat them it was with Logarusic.

That aside, let us focus on retaining good players despite the financial challenges the team is currently facing so that we can keep the focus and maintain our winning ways.

  • we have too many average player and a coach who is unable to push the to deliver. We such players you certainly need a high handed coach. Loga would succeed with this team. BW will not

Currently we are just a paper tiger – I can tell you any team can beat Gor. We just feel bad that Efusi did it for historical reasons.

We need a miracle to keep the title. we can bet on that

Whoever followed Gor just before Loga left will acknowledge that he was finding it tough winning games aas well and it was just a matter of time before his jinx against Ingwe was broken. We need to stabilize our team by supporting it without name-calling and finger-pointing

When Bw played 3-5-2,some people said it is too defensive and boring but forgot that 6 last matches were won with the same.We have a good coach let him do his job.Fielding players depends on the match and opponent style of play.I hope we maintain our playing unit and we will win the league with 5 matches in hand.

Dan what we are saying tactics, you must do your home work well, you cant use the same system every day systems comes with different teams and there players on the roster, that is why line up should be out some minutes before kick off. where is Daniel Onyango should have partnered Kizito in midfield. with players we have we should play direct 4-4-2 with one tall striker.we always throw high balls for Danny.

  • let us not blame anyone but the lost chances. Winning is about taking your chances and not wasting it. I t does not matter how well a team plays, but the tactics. BW had the tactics, the players created the chances but the strikers failed to convert them. We honestly should have won the game in the first half but wasted the many available opportunities. AFC took theirs and won. Do you blame the coach when a player fails to put in an open chance on goal? NO. How about when the keeper is making the blunders? Guys, Gor has beaten many teams and will top the first leg. Lazima kufungwa so we live to fight another day.

  • Congratulations the K’Ogalo family. We showed the World that we are a family of resolve. Come rain come sunshine, we stood behind our team and we showed that we are a people who believe in fighting in another day. This we must maintain. We can not expect the media to highlight this. They are quick to balloon the wrong reports. That is not a problem. Let our good, courtesy, passion, respect, talk for us and people will flock to the stadium to watch our Team play. The sponsors will come calling on us instead of us knocking on so many doors desperately and fruitlessly.
Looking at the figures supposed to have been realized, the bulk of that money was raised by the home team. We can do it guys.

  • Cry babies will always blame the coach. But what if wanyonyis goal could have won it for us?
Our players seems to be lucking urgency. Emuge was too heavy to cope with the speedy Afc attack.
Let’s all put the loss behind us and keep praying for the mighty Kogalo. we still have a long way to go.
