Ze Maria credits motivational talk for victory

Gor Mahia coach Ze Maria has credited a motivational talk he gave the team as the reason why Gor Mahia recovered to beat Chemelil Sugar 3-1 on Saturday.

“It all boiled down to some motivational talk. I was forced to remind the players that they were champions and needed to play like it. I made them understand that they are big players and need to show it in every game,” he said to the Standard.

Ze maria knows that his side will need to play with similar motivation in all the remaining matches since every team plays with extra effort agaainst Gor Mahia.

“We will have to work very hard to win this league because every team we meet just seems to give 200 per cent against us. As a result we have to find another way to win our matches.

On youngster Amos Nondi who had a brilliant game, Ze Maria urged patience.
“He is still young and we need to give him time to grow and settle in the team. We don’t want what happened to Eric Ouma to befall him. Now everybody knows Ouma and are always coming out hard on him.”

Nondi is the only player who has graduated from the youth team to the senior team. Last year he was loaned out to SoNy Sugar as Gor Mahia was awash with midfield talent.

Former national team coach and current TV analyst Jacob “Ghost” Mulee questioned the wisdom of playing Eric Ouma out of his normal position.

“Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma blossomed as a defender, that is where he was discovered and he should be playing in the same role. I am not impressed with the way he is being switched. I do not think that is a way to develop him. The best thing is to let him play the way he was playing before but from his natural position. He can still bring crosses from the left and the strikers will benefit from them. That is the only way to ensure he is still developing.” said Mulee to goal.com

Gor Mahia will take on Ulinzi on Wednesday. It is a side that is also rejuvenated after registering a 3-1 win over Sofapaka last weekend.

Mulee we did not solicit your advice , neither are you qualified to give us one…you are a former burukenge coach and as such , go and give them the advises you have in the bank.

@Jamriambo, Ghost was one of the best coaches we had who even took us to AFCON. That was his view and he could be wrong but there is no need for bad-mouthing him

  • I honestly agree with Mulee, Marcelo should be left to develop in his natural positions. Kindly learn to tolerate ones opinion

He himself has said he is comfortable in both positions, and excells in both….the choice is his and the TB, and thus so far he has proved he is equal at task. Mule has a lot of anti Gor rantings, like Ntaka the brewries coach, it irks me.
