In its 46 year history, Gor Mahia has seen its fair share of deadly strikers. It is difficult to come up with a precise list of who the best strikers ever to don the Kogalo jersey. But below is a sample.

Maurice Ochieng “Sonyi”

Nahashon Oluoch “Lule”

Sammy Onyango “Jogoo”

The Two Steves : Odiaga and Okumu

Steve Okumu in his heyday

 George Odhiambo “Blackberry”

 Michael Olunga

Michael Olunga, He was Known as “The Engineer” because during his stint at Gor Mahia he was pursuing a degree in Geospatial Engineering. Olunga played for Kogalo for only one season (2015). But during that season he left a significant footprint.

Prior to joining Gor Mahia, Olunga had been voted the best player at the 2012 Kenya national secondary schools competition while playing for Upper Hill school. A confident Olunga announced during a TV interview that he would like to play for Gor Mahia. But his career would first take him to Thika United and Tusker where he made very little impression.

It was upon joining Kogalo that his career took off. Despite a slow start, coach Frank Nuttall kept his faith in Olunga who repayed him handsomely. In 2015, Olunga scored 19 league goals to lead Gor Mahia to the title unbeaten. He scored 30 goals for Gor Mahia altogether in 2015 and scored a total of 35 goals in competitive matches including national team matches. Most notably, he was the top scorer in the 2015 CECAFA club cup with 5 goals. He was voted Kenya player of the year in  2015.

After the 2015 season, Olunga left for Sweden where he starred for IF Djugarden, scoring 12 goals in 27 appearances before proceeding to China for a lucrative deal then the Spanish La Liga with Girona
