Gor Mahia moved closer to the 2018 Kenya Premier league title with a crucial 1-0 win over Chemelil Sugar at Afraha.\u00a0The all important goal came in the 77th minute via Eliud Lokuwam.<\/p>\n

\nBoth sides started the game in an unsettled rush. In the 7th minute, Chemelil won a throw-in after Karim Nzigiyimana sent the ball off the field of play. The throw in did not amount to much. Just a minute later, the game had to be halted as Gor Mahia stopper Shaban Odhoji had a bloody injury that forced the Gor Mahia medical team to get on the pitch and address the matter.<\/p>\n

Chances<\/p>\n

In the 12th minute, Lawrence Juma found Guikan with a neat pass but Guikan’s attempt was blocked by Aimo. Ondiek attempted to pounce back a rebound but his attempt was parried off for a corner. Gor Mahia won a free-kick in the 24th minute. Lawrence Juma took it but Chemelil’s keeper Aimo comfortably saved it. Gor found themselves in an uncomfortable pickle when Chemelil mounted a counter-attack led by Omondi. Chemelil’s gameplay appeared to be that of sitting back and attempting to punish Gor Mahia on the counter.<\/p>\n

Solid Chemelil defense<\/p>\n

Chemelil’s defense remained solid even as Gor Mahia continued to surge forward with evidently, more of the ball possession.<\/p>\n

Lawrence Juma made a good cross to find Guikan in the area but the resultant header went wide for a free kick. The first yellow card of the game given to Gor Mahia’s Karim Nzigiyimana after fouling Kityo Bliss while attempting to make a clearance in 36th minute.<\/p>\n

Game halted\/Guikan injury<\/p>\n

A mid-air collision between Guikan and Chemelil goalkeeper Richard Aimo in the 39th minute forced the game to be halted for both players to get treated. Ephrem Guikan’s injury proved match-ending as he had to be stretchered off the pitch and taken straight to the ambulance in the 43rd minute.<\/p>\n

In the 56th minute, a free kick was given to Gor Mahia. It was taken by Kevin Omondi but he sent it wide.<\/p>\n

Lokuwam goal<\/p>\n

Gor Mahia’s lone goal came from super sub Eliud Lokuwam after a miscommunication from the Chemelil defenders. Lokuwam pounced on the loose ball and sent it in.<\/p>\n

The win takes Gor Mahia to 65 points as they inch closer to the title.<\/p>\n
