Gor Mahia will leave for Limbe, Cameroon on Friday for the Confederation of African Football (Caf) Confederation Cup playoff second led against New Stars de Douala of Cameroon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They leave at 8.05am, before connecting to the coastal town of Limbe. The match is set for Omnisports stadium in Limbe on Sunday at 5pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They will be defending a slim 2-1 lead and are further disadvantaged by having conceded an away goal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In West Africa anything can happen. We had a meeting with my players and I think mentally and physically we are strong enough,\u201d said coach Oktay to the Nation<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They will be missing Harun Shakava and Joash Onyango who were suspended by CAF as well as Humphrey Mieno who has joined St George of Ethiopia. Also doubtful is Kenneth Muguna who walked out of the team on Wednesday when he found out that he was not in the starting line-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And with Oliech Guikan and Kipkirui also ineligible, Gor Mahia will rely on Tuyisenge, Mustafa and Sekisambu for goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oktay blames Poor pre-season and instability<\/h3>\n\n\n

Hassan Oktay says lack of proper pre-season preparations is costing the club in terms of performance. According to Oktay, the club was rudderless once the 2018 season ended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018\u2019The kind of training they had last season did not help the players. It didn\u2019t help them develop or add anything for the new season,\u2019\u2019 Oktay said to Citizen Sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, there is lack of stability in the playing unit. Gor Mahia players are always linked to other African teams. Francis Kahata, Jacque Tuyisenge, Wellington Ochieng, Humphrey Mieno among others have all been linked with moves abroad. <\/p>\n\n\n

Gor Mahia coach \nHassan Oktay is unhappy with Ivorian striker Ephrem Guikan’s attitude in\n their 4-1 triumph over Mount Kenya United at Kasarani stadium on \nWednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oktay pulled off \nthe misfiring Guikan for the legendary Dennis Oliech after 42 minutes, a\n change that left the Ivorian furiously charging back to the dressing \nroom as fans jeered at him. This is the second time this season the \n24-year-old forward is pulling this stunt following his substitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s the first \ntime I am seeing this from Guikan but I can manage, this is not a \nproblem for me, I will need to talk to him,” the Turkish-Cypriot trainer\n said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He needs to work \nhard and he knows that,” Oktay said. “One of my philosophy I try to give\n this football team is that they need to work hard to achieve \nsomething.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guikan, who had \nquit the Kenyan champions in November before making a U-turn following \nthe resignation of coach Dylan Kerr, took to his Facebook page to \napologize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I come with this \nmessage, excuse me for my behavior tonight during the match. I admit to \nhaving bad reactions. I apologize to all the fans of Gor Mahia to all \nthe team and to the coaching staff, I am really sorry (sic),” he posted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guikan had fallen out with Kerr hence the decision to not renew his contract at Gor Mahia late last year.<\/p>\n
