Gor Mahia’s match to the top of the 2018-2019 league standings continued unabated when they beat Kariobangi Sharks 2-1 at Kisumu on Saturday. M<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The league’s MVP Eric Kapaito set the domestic cup holders on \ntheir way with a goal on 21 minutes but it was cancelled out by Lawrence\n Juma moments later, before Francis Kahata scored the winner on the \nstroke of halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Chemelil Sports Complex, Chemelil Sugar rallied from behind to edge Tusker by a similar scoreline.
Boniface\n Muchiri opened the scoring for Tusker in the 13th minute, before Lucas \nWaitere equalised for the hosts on 31 minutes. Musa Oundo netted \nChemelil’s winning goal in the 40th minute from the spot after Clyde \nSenaji was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Moi Stadium, Gor coach Hassan Oktay was full of praise for his charges while admitting that it was a tough duel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe game was difficult even though we had many chances. We dominated and won which is very important to the team,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His opposite number William Muluya said his charges lost because they did not capitalise on their chances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGor\n used their chances in the first half to beat us. We came back stronger \nbut all they did was to manage the game,\u201d said Muluya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coach\n Oktay overhauled his side with Kenneth Muguna being the only player \ngiven a starting role from the line-up that started against Zoo Kericho \nin Wednesday\u2019s midweek clash. Gor won the match 4-0 in Kericho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sharks\n had the first open chance of the match on 13 minutes when first leg \nscorer Duke Abuya connected with a pass from the right wing but he \nfailed to beat goalkeeper Fredrick Odhiambo in a one-on-one inside the \nbox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eight minutes later, Kapaito broke the deadlock when he sent a low shot to the unguarded right side of K\u2019Ogalo\u2019s<\/em> goalpost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gor almost responded immediately but Muguna\u2019s strike inside the box after a brilliant dribble was blocked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sharks’\n lead was short-lived as Juma found the back of the net three minutes \nafter Kapaito’s opener. The latter latched onto a poor clearance from \nPhilemon Otieno\u2019s cross, to send a low drive past a helpless John Oyemba\n in Sharks goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coach Muluya was forced to make a first-half substitution with Vincent Wasambo replacing the injured Athanas Moan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goalkeeper\n Oyemba made a brilliant save five minutes to the break when Nicholas \nKipkirui played in Jacques Tuyisenge who raced to send a firece shot, \nwhich the shot stopper dived to punch over the crossbar for a fruitless \ncorner-kick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gor then took the lead one minute to the \nbreak when the lively Kahata found the back of the net from outside the \nbox with a volley which caught goalkeeper Oyemba by surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kapaito\n and Abuya combined well moments after the restart, but the danger was \ncleared by skipper Harun Shakava before Kahata missed a chance in the \nhour-mark from Kipkirui\u2019s pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oktay sought fresh \nenergy upfront with Ugandan forward coming on for Kipkirui on 64 \nminutes, before Sharks responded in the 70th minute by resting Sydney \nLokale for Nicholas Omondi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

K\u2019Ogalo\u2019s momentum in the clash looked to have reduced with Sharks crowding their half in search for a goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuyisenge\n could have bagged a third for Gor in the 75th minute, but he rushed and\n blasted the chance wide before Abuya\u2019s effort two minutes later was \nruled out for offside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abuya was not lucky again as his attempted first time finish inside the box blazed over the crossbar.<\/p>\n
