With Zico forced out, he had taken over in a interrim basis. After he led Gor Mahia to win the FKF cup., fans and officials were satisfied that he was good enough to take over as head coach on a full time basis for the 2012 season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style3\">Though a good tactician, with a CAF A license and UEFA B license, Awono was hampered by his inability to vocalize well . Gor Mahia started the 2012 in disastrous fashion. After beating Thika United in the first game, Gor Mahia lost the next three league games. Matters came to a head when Kogalo lost 0-1 to Sher Karuturi. Fans accosted Awono after the game demanding an explanation. When Kogalo inexplicably lost to Mozambican side Ferroviario de Maputo, Awono&#8217;s run as coach was terminated along with the rest of the technical bench which was accused of infighting.
