This after their midweek clash against Tusker was postponed. Gor Mahia will be looking for some form of revenge after Sofapaka beat them on penalties in the Charity cup.

Sofapaka has always been a tough nut to crack. Nevertheless, Gor Mahia have had the upper hand against them in the past two years, most crucially beating them in the FKF cup final two times in a row.

Sofapaka will be buoyed by the return of inspirational defender James Situma and Congolese striker Patrick Kagogo. Gor Mahia will welcome Anthony Akumu back to the line-up after he missed the Seychelles match due to suspesion along with Israel Emuge , the rock of Gibraltar aka “Kidi Luanda“. Rama Salim is still nursing an injury. In his place Gor Mahia will depend on the fast improving Edwin Lavatsa along with Mungai Kiongera and Dan Sserunkuma.

Coach Logasrusic has made it clear that his primary goal this season is to win the league. Kogalo last won the league in 1995.

In the intervening years poor management of the team by subsequent chairmen saw the club fall to ridiculously low depths. Perhaps the lowest the club ever sunk was in 2002 when internal turmoil, vested interests and infighting in the clubs ranks saw the club relegated. The league had been divided into two groups and Kogalo finished at the bottom of group A. They however received a reprieve. The rest of the years, Kogalo was mostly a mid table club and played to very sparse crowds. Fans deserted due to the club’s fall from grace. For a while it looked like GorMahia and AFC were headed to extinction especially when Ingwe were relegated.

The Officials

Things improved only slightly after that until 2007 when current chairman Ambrose Rachier brought a semblance of normalcy and better organization.

It is important to remember the past and learn from history. After all it was only a year ago when vested interests and infighting derailed the club. Club officials should learn to put vested interests aside, do what is best for the club, avoid derailing the team and focus on helping the club win the league.

The Fans

The advent of the Kenya premier league with its better organization has helped the club by bringing the fans back. The return of fans to the terraces has helped bring Gor Mahia back to contention. Not only do the fans bring much needed funds via gate collection but also provide the team with much needed moral support. And we hope that 2013 is the year that Kogalo returns to glory. With that in mind, this author appeals to fans to turn up in droves, get behind the team and accept results as they come. Remember , the team cant win every game. More patience and more support is needed.

The Players

The current crop of players for their part can take inspiration from the exploits of players who featured for the club in the past and use this inspiration to work harder to return the club to the glory years. The fan base is counting on you. A group of players who bring glory to the club will always be remembered in the club’s folklore. To the players; This is your chance to stamp your name in the club’s history books. You can do it by winning the league this year and be remembered as the group who ended the clubs lengthy drought.

Gor Mahia will kickoff their 2013 league campaign with a match against Sofapaka this Saturday at Kasarani.
