The standoff that led to a Friday 19 April meeting between the Gor Mahia management and the players over unpaid bonuses has been solved amicably, George Bwana, the club\u2019s secretary general has confirmed to futaa.com<\/i>.<\/b><\/p>\n
Earlier reports had suggested that the Gor Mahia players had boycotted training in protest over unpaid dues and Bwana has come out to categorically acknowledge that indeed the club owes the players winning bonuses for two matches, the wins over KCB and Ulinzi Stars.<\/p>\n
CAF bills<\/b><\/p>\n
He attributed the delay to the huge bills incurred when the team was taking part in the CAF Confederations Cup tournament which he said overstretched the club\u2019s budget, a matter he noted that they explained to the players and reiterated the executive\u2019s dedication to players\u2019 welfare.<\/p>\n
-It is true we owe the players some money, winning bonuses for two matches \u2013 the Ulinzi win and most recently the KCB one. This whole situation was caused by the huge budget for the continental games that we took part in and at the moment we are from a meeting with the players, where we told them everything about it and all is settled.<\/p>\n
Team\u2019s welfare<\/b><\/p>\n
-We are working hard to ensure that these outstanding monies are paid; our dedication to the team\u2019s well being is never in question and you also realize that we haven\u2019t played many home matches yet that is where we get the money to pay them, he said.<\/p>\n
Incitement <\/b><\/p>\n
Bwana also revealed that the problem emanated from incitement by a member of the team\u2019s technical bench since the players had initially declined to take bonuses from three previous wins, demanding that they be given the full amount.<\/p>\n
-Initially we owed the players bonuses for five wins but had cleared three of those though we later came to learn that the players had refused to take that, demanding that we give them all of it but from our investigations we since have learnt that a member of the technical bench was inciting them over the same issue.<\/p>\n
Under control<\/b><\/p>\n
-We have as well spoken about this to the players and though I can\u2019t name the technical bench member we will treat this issue as one of utmost indiscipline. But all that aside, the situation is under control, he added.<\/p>\n
Gor Mahia players are entitled to winning bonuses of 5000 shillings each.<\/p>\n
