Gor Mahia edged out Bandari 1-0 in a tough Kenyan Premier League match played on Sunday at Mbaraki Stadium, in Mombasa.<\/p>\n
Gor were on the attack as early as the third minute when Mungai Kiongera chased a long ball and in the process his high boot connected with Bandari keeper Wilson Obungu resulting in a serious head injury for the national team keeper.<\/p>\n
It set the tone for a charged first half during which Kiongera, Edwin Lavatsa, Jeremy Bright and Raphael Okello all went into the referee\u2019s book for rough play.<\/p>\n
In the 21st minute, Gor\u2019s new signing Eric Ochieng took aim from outside the box but it flew over the bar. In the 28th minute, Shaban Kenga managed to go past Gor defender Christopher Wekesa, but just as he was about to release the ball, Donald Mosoti slid in to concede a corner.<\/p>\n
The breakthrough came for Gor Mahia in added time it the end of the first half when David Owino powerfully headed home an Ochieng corner.<\/p>\n
In the second half, Bandari appeared more structured and even made several threatening attempts at goal, the most notable being a clean shot from David Tevelu in the 68th minute which forced the Gor keeper into a good save.<\/p>\n
Bandari were reduced to ten men after Bright was red carded after a second bookable offence for fouling Paul Odhiambo.<\/p>\n
Kiongera almost gave Gor a second goal in the 84th minute, after receiving a great pass from Dan Sserunkuma, but he took too long to get his shot away and failed to hit the target.<\/p>\n
