Newly hired Scottish coach Bobby Williamson expressed his excitement as he started work on Tuesday afternoon.\u201cI\u2019m excited to coach a big club like Gor Mahia. There will, definitely, be a lot of pressure, which is the nature of our job, and I will strive to contain it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know Gor Mahia fans are very passionate and vocal, especially when things are not going their way, but my job here is to make them happy. I want the entire Gor Mahia family to grow and fill stadiums knowing there will be good results.\u201d Williamson told the Daily Nation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
He comes at a time when despite the fact that club is second in the standings, the play of the team ha snot been inspired. Gor Mahia have struggled to win games this season. Most of the time they eke out a 1-0 win or a score-less draw. Goals have been hard to come by. The midfield has been below par thus starving the attack . Also the tactic every team has employed against Gor Mahia this season has been to park the bus and Gor Mahia have been unable to find answers. The only shining light has been the defence and the goalkeeping. One can make the argument that Jerry “Jagoal” Onyango has been the best player in the team this season.<\/p>\n
Williamson thus has work cut out in terms of finding a way to pep up the midfield and sharpen the attack. Certain players have had below par performances. Kevin Omondi looked very promising in 2011 when at age 19, he already made it to the starting line-up of the national team. He has had some brilliant moments but overall has failed to maintain consistency. Anthony Akumu too has been rather inconsistent. At age 19, he too was in the national team. So good was he that he earned trials in Denmark. Williamson must find a way to get the best out of these players on a consistent basis. There is also players like Mutiso whose pace on the wing can be a handful as well as the creative “Gaucho”. However so far this year, the club has not gotten the best out of these players. The midfield has been dire. And there have been certain matches where Gor Mahiawere so disjointed that they\u00a0 could not string more than three passes together.<\/p>\n
And with the firepower that Gor Mahia has upfront, there is no reason Kogalo should be struggling to score against the likes of Karuturi. Williamson with his vast experience is the man for the job. Chairman Ambrose Rachier expressed confidence in the new coach.\u00a0 \u201cThe coach is well travelled with a very good performance in the teams he has coached. Discipline<\/strong><\/p>\n Williamson emphasized the importance of discipline.<\/p>\n \u201cThey must have discipline for us to achieve our collective dream. We cannot allow players be late or absent themselves from training without a valid reason.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThe players, as well as the technical bench, must carry themselves with professionalism.
