The teams had also settled for a similar score line in the first leg encounter.

City Stars launched their first attack just three minutes into the game. Jimmy Bageya was first caught offside then Dennis ‘Wise’ Okoth had a shot go off target.

In the 8th minute, Gor Mahia’s Innocent Mutiso sent a nice cross that was met by Anthony Akumu who shot wide.

In the next move, a long ball forward intended to reach Kevin Omondi was intercepted by City keeper Kagunzi to neutralize the lurking danger.

Gor’s Edwin Lavatsa will have himself to blame after blasting wide from a perfect Innocent Mutiso pass in the 11th minute.

In the 23rd minute, Kevin Omondi found space to run then setup Kiongera with a good cross but the latter’s shot was too feeble to trouble the keeper.

In the 26th minute, Eric Ochieng sent a thunderbolt that hit the crossbar to deny Gor the opener.

Ten minutes to the break, City Stars had a chance through Justus Bawsweti whose free kick went straight to keeper Jerim Onyango.

Paul Kiongera closed the first half chapter with another wide shot.

Second Half

After the break, Gor Mahia began from where they had left by piling pressure that resulted in a corner that fell on Donald Mosoti’s leg but he shot wide.

A bad challenge on Arthur Museve by Paul Kiongera meant the City Stars veteran had to be stretched off to receive medical attention while Kiongera registered his name in the yellow cards list. Raymond Omondi later replaced Museve.

In the 57th minute, Jimmy Bageya was yellow carded for complaining about a wrong offside call. Three minutes later, the Ugandan paved way for John Makwata.

Gor Mahia’s then made inroads into the City box but Eric Ochieng’s dive in the 65th minute only earned him a yellow card booking.

In the 68th minute, Paul Kiongera sent a pin point cross to Kevin Omondi who managed to round the keeper but with an empty net inviting him, he shot wide. Omondi would then watch in disbelief as the woodwork denied him the opener from a free kick four minutes later.

Coach Bobby Williamson tried to unlock the deadlock by bringing in Moses Odhiambo for the hardworking Innocent Mutiso. The dreadlocked striker’s major contribution was in the 90th minute when he dribbled into the box then found Kevin Omondi who squandered the opportunity.

The draw means Gor Mahia has now dropped four points in their last two games. They still top the log with 37 points, 6 above second placed Thika United.City Stars has 25 points from 19 matches.

courtesy of michezoafrika.com Kawangware based City Stars again proved a hard nut to crack by holding league leaders Gor Mahia

[1

post-2841","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
["GET
