{"id":2864,"date":"2013-08-07T17:19:29","date_gmt":"2013-08-07T17:19:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gormahia.net\/latest\/?p=2864"},"modified":"2013-08-07T17:20:44","modified_gmt":"2013-08-07T17:20:44","slug":"gor-mahoa-to-play-shabana-in-gotv-shield","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gormahia.net\/latest\/news\/gor-mahoa-to-play-shabana-in-gotv-shield\/","title":{"rendered":"Gor Mahia to play Shabana in GOTV shield"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kenya Premier League side Gor Mahia have been handed Shabana FC in the second round of the GOTV Shield Cup set for this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Gor Mahia have won the local cup for two years in a row, each time beating Sofapaka. In 2011, Kogalo won thanks to a goal by Edwin Lavatsa. Last year they beat Sofapaka in the final thanks to the penalty saving heroics of goalkeeper Ivo Mapunda and his magic towel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gormahia.net\/images\/supercup2013.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The second round draw involved all the KPL teams who were given a bye for the first round, and the winners of the first round ties which were played a fortnight ago.<\/p>\n<p>Gor Mahia were seeded for the second round along with last year\u2019s other best teams : Sofapaka, Tusker and AFC Leopards were seeded for the second round. Tusker FC will meet Talanta for the second time after also playing them last year; Sofapaka will play Agro Chemicals while AFC Leopards will have a rather easy fixture against Wazee wa Kazi.<\/p>\n<p>The matches will be played on the weekend of August 24 and 25 with the exception of Gor Mahia and AFC leopards who will play their matches the following weekend as they will be involved in the highly anticipated derby.<\/p>\n<p>This year marks the first time that the local cup has a sponsor. GOTV has taken up on the sponsorship of President\u2019s Cup after signing a five year deal with Football Kenya Federation.
