<\/p>\nGor Mahia have been in sensational form over the past few weeks. Not only have they recorded impressive wins over Thika United, Chemelil and Mathare United, but the team play has been impressive.\u00a0 In the first leg of the league, it was clear that it was the defence and goalkeeping that was carrying the team. In the past few games however,\u00a0 different players have stepped up to carry the mantle in each game.<\/p>\n
Against Mathare United, it was new find Joseph Wanyonyi whose outstanding play saw him earn MVP honours.\u00a0 \u201cThis was just his first start. I am impressed with his work rate, he is definitely going to be a great player if he maintains his discipline and focus,\u201d said Williamson.<\/p>\n

Prior to that, Wanyonyi had entered the Chemelil game as a substitute. Some fans questioned the rationale of replacing the veteran Moses Odhiambo with an inexperienced player. But he impressed in the manner in which he deftly lost his markers especially Charles Odero who will be seeing Wanyonyi in his nightmares for a long time. And his pinpoint crosses are reminiscent of the legendary Sammy Onyango Jogoo.<\/p>\n
Wanyonyi, attanded Kamusinde High School\u00a0 and learned his craft at Aspire Academy in Qatar. He\u00a0 was ecstatic after being named the MVP in the closely contested match at the Nyayo National Stadium.\u201cI am happy to have been given a chance to start and to win the man of the match award. I want to work harder to cement my position in this team,\u201d he said in a post match interview.<\/p>\n
The young lad has brilliant future and hopefully Kogalo can hold onto him and prevent you know who from poaching him.<\/p>\n
Sserunkuma<\/strong><\/p>\n The burly Ugandan striker appeared to have lost his place in the starting line-up during the first leg as coach Loga preferred Kiongera, Rama and Lavatsa. At one point he appeared to be destined for Armenia. But Kogalo fans must\u00a0 be thanking\u00a0 their creator that Sserunkuma stayed to help bolster the club’s league campaign. He has been in sensational form of late, wreaking all kinds of havoc against opposing defences. Againt Chemelil, it was his defence splitting pass that found Kevin Omondi and resulted in the penalty that won the game for Kogalo. Passing is perhaps one of Sserunkuma’s least noticed but most useful skills.<\/p>\n The Youth Brigade<\/strong><\/p>\n One good aspect of coach Williamson is his willingness to thrust youngstars into the game. This is unlike Loga who was risk averse. Aside from Wanyonyi we have also seen Angelo Okumu and Eric Ochieng play prominent roles. And Williamson is clearly brilliant at inspiring young players and bringing the best out of them. In this regard, he is reminiscent of the legendary Len Julians.<\/p>\n Others.<\/strong><\/p>\n Oboya when healthy has proven to be a brilliant attacker. His silken skills and string runs from deep are the bane of many a KPL defender.Kevin Omondi too has impressed with his brilliant play especially against Chemelil last weekend.<\/p>\n Joseph Njuguna has proven useful when Anthony Akumu is blowing cold. Emuge in central defence is still an immovable rock as is Owino “Calabar”, Mosoti and Jerry “Jagoal”.<\/p>\n The league is still far from over. Any #hashtag# expressions expressing over-confidence should be set aside for now. Coach Williamson himself has noted that the road ahead is still treacherous. “We still have a long way. It is not yet won, but I am happy with today’s display,” he said.<\/p>\n Gor Mahia will next take on Thika United at Kasarani on October 16.
