The elections were around the corner and each official was focused on his own campaigns. Getting any of them to listen to me proved difficult. It was, therefore, a blessing when Simba came knocking and I am glad they gave me a good offer,” he said.

Mapunda, well-known for his prowess in taming penalties, was one of the instrumental players in Gor’s winning of the league title.

Gor Mahia have yet to recruit a replacement for Mapunda.

Clubs can now field 5 foreigners

Gor Mahia Funs line on being frisk into Nyayo Stadium entrance during League match. Kenya Premier League clubs will now be allowed to field five foreign players in any match during the 2014 league campaign.

Initially, local clubs were only allowed to register five players but field three in any given competitive match. “We have ratified the rule and now clubs can sign five foreign players and field similar number in a single match,” KPL’s CEO Jack Oguda said yesterday.

This move comes two months after country’s top sides Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards’ wrote to Football Kenya Federation requesting for a change in the rules regarding signing of foreign players.

The two clubs in a joint letter demanded that the quota of foreign players be increased to at least eight from current three. Both sides will represent the country in continental football next season and wanted to be given a chance to bolster their squads while at the same time felt the rule inhibited their ability to sign top players.

Gor Mahia, the Kenyan Premier League champions, will represent the country in African Champions League with Leopards’ taking part in Confederations Cup.

“The current rule restricting us to signing only three foreign players needs to be changed because at continental level, we are going to compete with teams that probably field all foreign players putting us at a disadvantage. The rule should either be abolished or the quota increased to eight players,” stated the letter signed by both clubs.

courtesy of supersport.com Former Gor Mahia goalkeeper Ivo Mapunda, currently with Tanzanian side Simba SC, has come out to explain

[1

post-3550","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
["GET
