The lone goal for the visitors was scored by Geoffrey Simiyu in the 77th minute.

In about the ninth minute Gor thought they had taken the lead but a connection from a corner hit the underneath of the cross bar before bouncing back into play and to the safety of the league newcomers.

Long cross from deep

The next real chance on goal came in the 19th minute when a knock down by Gor Mahia’s Ali Abondo in the box falls on Baldwin Ngwa whose low shot was parried off by Muhoroni keeper Joseck Kadongo for a corner. The resultant kick rattles the underneath of the cross bar but bounces back into play.

Just two minutes later a long cross from deep found Abondo but his shot from acute angle hit the side netting.

Muhoroni had a chance of their own when striker David Oriki was left unmarked in thepeanlty area. He dove for a ball from deep but his header but somehow Gor keeper Ivo Mapunda managed to keep Gor on a clean sheet.

Three minutes to the break, Ngwa went up to meet a high ball but his header earned that was later wasted.

– Muhoroni’s back five have been impressive. If they get a sucker punch Gor could be in trouble, said SuperSport analysts Arnold Kanyangonda at the break

-Gor obviously have the better chances but it looks one of those familiar things where the favorite has the chances but no goals, added Arnold

– I am looking at a 1-0 Muhoroni win, Arnold Kanyangonda, he concluded

Ahead of Gor defenders

The second half kicked off with skipper of the day Kevin Ochieng limped off for former Thika United left back Yusuf Juma. In the very next minute, Juma whips in a cross and Ateng nearly concedes an own goal for Muhoroni

On 52 minutes, Gor Mahia back line was caught off and David Oriki found himself ahead of Gor defenders. However, his first touch and precision let him down as he shot straight at Mapunda he punched it back in play but the rebound was wasted by Faraj.

Ten minutes later Tony Nyangor ‘Balotieno’ failed to connect to a bouncing ball after an otherwise well organized Muhoroni Youth defense was caught in a mix up. Just two minutes later a Nyagor touch on a corner was cleared off the line by substititue Caleb Waka.

Went above bar

Another break from the half saw Gor Mahia go down 0-1.
