GOR MAHIA’S CAF Confederation Cup, first round, return leg tie against Ferroviario de Maputo of Mozambique in Nairobi has been pushed back by a week.<\/p>\n

The match earlier scheduled for Match 3 will now take place on March 10 after Mozambicans appealed to CAF for a change of date. The Mozambique national team has a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match away match against Tanzania in Dar-es-Salaam on February 29. Many Ferroviario players are in the national team and would not have had enough time to re-assemble and face Gor Mahia in Nairobi on March 3.<\/p>\n

The CAF headquarters granted Ferroviario du Maputo the green light to push their match with Gor Mahia in Nairobi by a week. Gor Mahia lost the first leg in Maputo 3-0 but are hopeful of overturning the result to progress to the next round. “It can be done,” said Gor Mahia assistant secretary Ronald Ngala on Wednesday. “Ferroviario’s defence can be breached and if we get two goals in the first half, we shall be in with a chance to go through.”<\/p>\n

Gor Mahia pitted to play AFC Leopards in the opening match of the Kenyan Premier League “Top 8” tournament, which is scheduled to start on March 7. However, KPL deferred the actual dates for all the four matches. Ngala said the KPL decision had a lot to do with other clubs than Gor Mahia’s calendar. “Even though a ‘Top 8’ match for us on March 7, will be too close to the Confederation Cup, which will be played three days later, other clubs also face challenges with domestic fixtures.”<\/p>\n

“The ‘Top 8’ matches are in Nairobi on Wednesday nights, so if an up-country team is involved in such a fixtures before returning home for a league match over the weekend, then it is quite a problem. That is why the KPL wishes to schedule the ‘Top 8’ matches after carefully considering other league fixtures,” he said. However, Ngala was upbeat about the impending “Top 8” clash with arch-rivals AFC Leopards. “We are ready to take them head-on,” he said.<\/p>\n
