After Kogalo\u2019s ignominious exit from the CAF confederations cup, they will be <\/span>seeking to redeem themselves starting <\/span>this we<\/span>ek. On Wednesday they face off against defending champions Tusker and on Sunday they face arch rivals AFC leopards. These are not easy matches and could not have come at a worse time. \u201cI<\/span>t is going to be <\/span>a tough match, but I be<\/span>lieve we <\/span>have to respond after a series of poor results. The players have taken their we<\/span>ekend loss to Ferroviario positively and are keen to revamp their league campaign with a mid we<\/span>ek win against Tusker,\u201d said new team manager Tom Ogwe<\/span>no.<\/p>\n

After the lackluster display in Naivasha a we<\/span>ek ago, fans will be <\/span>hoping that the team plays with some sense of urgency. And there is nobody be<\/span>tter to light a fire underneath the players than the fiery Bobby Ogolla. He is the be<\/span>st man for the moment. Cameroonian Anaba Awono with his fatherly demeanor and lack of eloquence was seemingly unable to inspire players as evidenced by their disinterested performance in Naivasha.<\/p>\n

With the previous technical be<\/span>nch swe<\/span>pt aside and a new team in place. It is critical that fans show some patience. Ogolla and Ogwe<\/span>no have be<\/span>en in charge of the team for less than 10 days. Let us given them sometime to settle in.<\/p>\n

Yet there are a myriad of problems to solve. Ogwe<\/span>no said: \u201cWe <\/span>noted a lot of mistakes against Ferroviario and we <\/span>have be<\/span>en working round the clock to rectify the loopholes be<\/span>fore the We<\/span>dnesday match. We <\/span>wasted a lot of chances despite the fact that we <\/span>created a lot of chances and we <\/span>dedicated two days to work on finishing be<\/span>cause if we <\/span>take our chances we <\/span>can be<\/span>at any side.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perhaps most glaring is the lack of goals. The team is seemingly unable to score goals. Part of the problem is the inability to create clear-cut chances. What seems to be <\/span>happening in midfield is just a series of hopeful balls played to the strikers. Perhaps this is why fans have be<\/span>en asking for Rama Salim whom fans see as a potential playmaker. The strikers themselves have be<\/span>en unable to show poise in front of goal resulting in a series of missed chances. That lack of poise has extended to penalties where Kogalo players have shown an inexplicable inability to score from the spot.<\/p>\n

Of course a significant issue is that fact that much of the squad has not played together for long enough to build cohesion. Bobby Ogolla touched on this: \u201c\u201cI <\/span>think <\/span>we <\/span>should <\/span>be <\/span>starting <\/span>our games with the strongest line up possible and leave that thought of a super sub.\u201d Aside from a starting <\/span>eleven, Ogolla should <\/span>probably work on finding combinations that work. 2 years ago, Blackbe<\/span>rry and Baldwin Ngwa developed a telepathic understanding thar resulted in a hatful of goals. JBO should <\/span>seek to identify combinations of 2 or 3 players who can combine we<\/span>ll.<\/p>\n
