Gor Mahia coach Bobby Williamson has admitted that Esperance were several notches above Gor Mahia<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to accept that Esperance is a class above so many clubs in Africa, Gor Mahia included,\u201d said the team coach Bobby Williamson.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been an experience that tells us where we are and the gap we need to bridge\u00a0before we can comfortably battle for honours in Africa. We were up against a side whose budget exceeds ours a\u00a0 hundredfold and\u00a0way ahead in terms of facilities,\u201d added the Scott.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have learnt a lot over the two rounds and we will build on our weaknesses.\u201d said Williamson to the Nation.<\/p>\n
The gap in financing was evident in the fact that while Esperance camped in Europe, Gor Mahia mostly played local lower league teams.<\/p>\n
Team manager Frank Ouna for his part has vowed to put the lessons learned from the Esperance match into practise. Ouna, said they will make a critical analysis of their experience in the continental championships and come up with proposals for the club management to consider in future when the club competes in Africa.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was evidently a huge difference between Esperance and Gor Mahia. The result in Tunis could have been bigger were it not for our goalkeeper,\u201d Ouna\u00a0said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe cannot blame the players, Esperance were tactically and physically superior than us. And the weather also favoured them,\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will go back to the drawing board. Our focus now is on the\u00a0Kenyan Premier League and the GOtv Shield.\u00a0We hope to bounce\u00a0back\u00a0stronger. But we must raise our standards to compete,\u201d said Ouna to the Nation.<\/p>\n
Acording to a story posted on the Kawowo sports website, former African champions, TP Mazembe of DRC are reportedly set to swoop for Gor Mahia’s star Ugandan striker Dan Sserunkuma.<\/p>\n
Representatives from the four-time African champions are said to have been in Zambia on Wednesday, where they watched Sserunkuma playing for the Uganda Cranes against Zambia.<\/p>\n
No official bid has been tabled yet, but according to an unnamed source quoted on the official Kenyan Premier League website, the interest is certainly there.<\/p>\n
“Sserunkuma could move as early as June. I think his camp has been notified (of the interest), but formal negotiations are yet to start with Gor,” the source was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n
“Officials from Mazembe are using one or two Kenyans to try and push a deal. He is an accomplished forward, but at Mazembe he can play as a support strike.”<\/p>\n
