The mashemeji derby on Sunday marked the first time that CCTV cameras were used to enhance security at the stadium. Hosts Gor Mahia\u00a0 hired Logix Technical Solutions (LTS) for the job at a cost of Sh180,000.<\/p>\n
The KPL Head of Technical Services, Safety and Security GMT Ottieno, said that the use of the cameras was a significant step that needs to be embraced by other clubs.<\/p>\n
LTS Managing Director Sam Oguko said that the\u00a0 challenges faced on the pilot programme included\u00a0 late\u00a0 arrival of police officers\u00a0 to duty which he said interfered with the control of the crowd.<\/p>\n
\u201cInitially our plan was to have the fans frisked from parameter gate. By so doing it becomes easy, but in a situation where law enforcers came late, everything became difficult because we too are in grave danger as the fans can easily destroy the cameras,\u201d he said to the Nation.<\/p>\n
The use of CCTV cameras will help weed out hooligans who have contributed negatively to the financial fortunes of the club.<\/p>\n
Chief Executive Omondi Aduda criticised the Sports Stadia Management Board (SSMB) for not doing enough to secure their premises.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we hire your venues, we pay a fee. Apart from that, you take twenty per cent of gate collections, yet you expect clubs who are your clients to do everything pertaining security- failure to which you slap them with heavy fines and bans,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou should ask yourself; what is it you have done to lure your clients and make them comfortable?\u201d said Aduda to the Nation<\/p>\n
