The two teams had also drawn 1-1 in the first leg match played at the same venue.

True to expectation, Thika United shocked Gor Mahia with a 26th minute expertly scored by Jackson Macharia. He was picked out by David Kingatua with a back heel which he calmly volleyed home and there was nothing Jerim Onyango in the Gor Mahia goal could do about it as he watched helplessly as the ball hit the net.

The goal came at the end of a strong onslaught by the visitors who were calm on the ball and never looked intimidated by the huge crowd that turned up to cheer their opponents.

Two corners in the first ten minutes showed the early dominance by the visitors and was not a surprise that they went ahead first.

However, it took only six minutes for Gor Mahia to get back into the match after top striker Dan Sserunkuma equalized from the penalty spot. Center referee Davies Omweno pointed to the spot after Vincent Omumbo handled in his box while trying to clear a danger.

Gor Mahia’s Godfrey Walusimbi was the first to be booked getting his caution with just a few minutes to the break. David ‘Calabar’ Owino was also booked for a high boot offence. Thika United goalkeeper Hamuza Muwonge was the other player who was booked for time wasting.

Gor Mahia coach Bobby Williamson was forced to bring new faces into his starting line-up after losing some key players in mid-season which saw him start Collins Okoth, John Kariuki and Timothy Otieno and will be pleased by their performance.

The three new players gave a good account of themselves with Timothy Otieno recently brought in from Talanta Academy making some inroads into the Thika United backline but it still was not enough to give them a win.

Starting line-up:

Starting : 1 Jerim Onyango ,4 Kevin Oluoch, 18 Harun Shakava, 15 David Owino, 2 Godfrey Walusimbi, 3 Godfrey Kizito, 17 Eric Ochieng, 6 Collins Okoth, 20 Joseph Kariuki, 8 Timothy Otieno, 8 Dan Sserunkuma

Substitutes: 16 David Juma(GK). 30 Patrick Onyango, 5 Musa Mohamed, 10 Daniel Onyango, 7 Simon Mburu 25 George Odhiambo, 12 Arthur Ssemazi.

Gor Mahia came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at home to Thika United. courtesy of goal.com Kenyan Premier

[1
132
post-4824","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news","tag-gor-mahia-kenya-premier-league
["GET
