Coach Bobby Williamson has expressed his disappointment at his players for missing chance after chance during the 0-1 loss to Atletico of Burundi.<\/p>\n
“We had enough chances to win the game but we never utilized them. I’m disappointed on my guys who reacted negatively after conceding the goal.” said Williamson to capital FM<\/p>\n
Bobby also accused the players of lacking motivation.<\/p>\n
“Players need to motivate and believe in themselves. If they don’t then it’s going to be a struggle to proceed to the quarters, but the team is in transition since it’s new with only four who won the league last season,” a disappointed Gor head coach, Bobby Williamson said after the match.<\/p>\n
Even Atletico coach Cedric Kaze admitted that Gor Mahia were the better side.<\/p>\n
We have improved from our first game since we defended and attacked at the same time, Gor were a better side in the first-half where they got chances but never utilized. I’m happy with my boys who made good use of the few chances they created and with that I have confidence we will win our remaining matches,” said Kaze.<\/p>\n
Williamson made four changes from the squad that lost 2-1 to KCCA with Kennedy Opiyo replacing defender Godfrey Walusimbi who was sidelined due to illness as Bruno Charles benched Musa Mohammed at right back.<\/p>\n
Joseph Kariuki and Simon Mburu were also drafted in place of Eric Ochieng and George ‘Black Berry’ Odhiambo.<\/p>\n
Gor Mahia were indeed the better side especially in the first half. Were it not for good goalkeeping by Kandolo Akimana in the Atletico goal, Gor Mahia would have surged ahead.<\/p>\n
Coach Williamson also hinted at a lack of cohesion due to the fact that the players have only been playing together for a short period.<\/p>\n
“When you look at this team it is made up of only four players who won the league and it is more on a transition period. We shouldn’t have lost the first game neither we were supposed to do the same in this one.”<\/p>\n
Indeed the constant player turnover that has plagued the club in 2014 has been a major culprit in the clubs faltering performance. However questions will be asked about Williamson’s decision to replace Musa Nassur with Kennedy Ayong as the latter had a torrid time trying to contain the Burundian wingers.<\/p>\n
Gor Mahia are now the only team left in the group that has not won a game. They have two games left against APR and against Djibouti Telecom. Going on past performance, none of these games will be easy. Gor Mahia can still qualify for the next stage since three teams from the group qualify.<\/p>\n
