Gor Mahia beat Ushuru FC 3-0 in a tense encounter which they thoroughly dominated at the Moi stadium in Kisumu. Going into the match, Gor Mahia had maintained a studied silence compared to the noisy Ushuru FC coach Kennedy Kenyatta, a former goalkeeper with Transcom FC of Nakuru. The stadium was filled to the capacity with among others Raila Odinga in attendance. This should put to rest the supserstition that Gor Mahia cannot win when RAO is present.<\/p>\n
Gor Mahia dominated from start to finish and put Ushuru on the backfoot. As early as the 5th minute, a well taken free-kick by Dan Walusimbi landed at the feet of Sserunkuma who failed to convert. George Odhiambo came close in the 25th minute but he was denied by the alert Ushuru goalkeeper Kevin Otieno. On 43 minutes, a brilliant 1-2 move between Blackberry and Sserunkuma ended with the latter once again coming very close.<\/p>\n
Midfielder Eric Ochieng finally broke the deadlock in the 45th minute via a powerful shot. Gor Mahia went to the changing room leading 1-0. Taslisman Dan Sserunkuma netted the second on 50 minutes when he picked up a cross from George Odhiambo.<\/p>\n
Evans Kiwanuka who had been a threat throughout the match, almost pulled one back in 61st minute with a well taken free-kick but Jerim Onyango was alert.<\/p>\n
The third goal resulted when a Simon Mburu effort was deflected into the Ushuru goal by an Ushuru defender Richard Mboyi.<\/p>\n
It was relief and elation for Gor Mahia fans who suffered heartbreak on the last day of the league in 2010 and again in 2012. Thousands poured into the field of play after the final whistle. Going into the match, Gor Mahia had to win the much to be assured of the title. A loss or\u00a0 draw would have put their fate in the hands of the Tusker-Sofapaka match. In the end it did not matter as Gor Mahia won 3-0 while Sofapaka were held 2-2 by Tusker.
