What scuttled the deal and saved the day for AFC was that chairman Ambrose Rachier did not show up for a scheduled meeting with Saleh.

“Gor Mahia offered Saleh Sh600, 000 and he was ready to go but what saved the day for us (Leopards) is the fact that Ambrose (Rachier) did not turn up for a scheduled meeting with the player where they would have signed the deal. We took advantage of that lapse to convince him to stay,” said an AFC official to goal.com.

Saleh has since renewed his deal at AFC.

Reports were rife in cyberspace that Saleh had already joined Gor Mahia. These reports were likely leaked by eager beaver club officials. Once again silence is golden.

And in a twist of irony , the AFC official used the examples of Eric Masika and Tim Wanyonyi as examples of why a move from Gor Mahia to AFC never succeeds.

“We gave him example of Eric Masika and Timonah Wanyonyi to show him that moving from AFC Leopards’ to Gor Mahia or vice-versa is not usually a good career move.”

This is highly ironic considering that it is AFC who ruined the careers of the two players and it is they who are pursuing Owino Calabar.

Meanwhile Secretary general Chris Omondi says the club has come to terms with the fact that there two targets Geoffrey Kataka and Charles Odette have both joined Posta Rangers instead

It is quite unfortunate that we have lost two of our transfer targets and will now have to reconsider our options.

“We had tried to sign the two players – Odette and Kataka – in June but we were unsuccessful and hoped we could finally acquire their signatures before the new season. Now they are gone and we will adjust to other options, he said to the club’s site.

Nevertheless it is not just Gor Mahia who lost out. Both Tusker and AFC were said to be pursuing Odette and Kataka

Other reports suggested that Ezekiel Otuoma had not received any offers from Gor Mahia either.

Still Omondi indicated that they are chasing promising deals.

“There are bigger challenges in the transfer market and the ground is uneven but we will do our best to acquire the right quality and talent to strengthen our squad and fill the gaps left by the two confirmed exits so far. “

“We are closely chasing some promising deals too and hopefully we will soon confirm a few acquisitions, “

In this case, silence is golden. Everytime Gor Mahia announces that they are pursuing a player, other clubs come into the fray and matters become complicated

A report suggests that Gor Mahia offered Jackson Saleh Ksh 600,000 to cross over from AFC Leopards.
