However their spirits will be somewhat lifted as Gor Mahia has found capable replacements.

In the towering Michael Olunga, Gor Mahia have found a player who is a capable scorer. Last season he scored 9 goals while playing for Thika United. He is a talented player with plenty of potential. While playing for Kakamega high school, he was voted the most valuable player of the national secondary schools championships.

Khalid Aucho has been signed to replace compatriot Geoffrey Kizito with whom he featured in the Ugandan national team. Kizito was a sensation in the Kenya Premier League and may have been the league’s best player. Aucho was rock solid at Tusker in 2014 and should provide similar solidity at the defensive midfield position.

Also arriving from Tusker is defensive midfielder Ali Abondo who left Gor Mahia in 2013 and goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch who will compete with Jerim Onyango and David Juma. Oluoch is said to be the younger brother of George Odhiambo “Taffarel” a goalkeeper who played for Gor Mahia in the late 1990s.

One area that was sorely lacking at Gor Mahia is creativity in midfield. Burundian Pierre Kwizera, an attacking midfielder has been signed to plug that gap. Kwizera has most recently played for Simba sports club of Dar es Salaam but was dropped to make way for additional foreigners. Innocent Wafula who was recently signed from Chemelil Sugar will also provide additional options.

Indeed the Gor Mahia bench has been exceptionally weak over the past year.

Meanwhile some of the players whom Lordvick Aduda had said were dropped or sent in loan were seen in training on Tuesday, among them Daniel Onyango and Charles Bruno.

Aduda Clarifies Arrears

Club CEO Lordvick Aduda yesterday cleared the air on what is happening with regards to unpaid salaries.

“.We had to do first things first since there was a deadline to beat which required that finances are well planned for, he explained. That is why we paid half of the November salaries since we also had to bring on board a couple of signings. It is our policy that we pay by latest 5th. It is just a question of priorities and planning” he told futaa.com

Aduda further promised that all salary arrears will be cleared in two days.

With regard to coach Nuttall, club secretary Ronald Ngala indicates that club and coach have agreed to terms. “We had already done 80 percent as far as Nuttall’s contract is concerned. What was remaining is the bonuses which we agreed to pay him once he retains the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title.

“We have given him a target of forming a strong team that will reach the group stage of the African Champions League, defend the KPL, better performance in Cecafa Club Championship and win any domestic Cup,” said Ronald Ngala

Gor Mahia are set to unveil the new signings on Thursday at the club offices situated at Nyayo National Stadium Block A starting 11:30 am.

The loss of key players, Dan Sserunkuma, Geoffrey Kizito and David Owino among others has left Gor Mahia fans downbeat.

[1

post-5965","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
["GET
