{"id":6573,"date":"2015-04-12T14:07:02","date_gmt":"2015-04-12T14:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gormahia.net\/latest\/?p=6573"},"modified":"2015-04-13T02:56:11","modified_gmt":"2015-04-13T02:56:11","slug":"gor-mahia-1-afc-leopards-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gormahia.net\/latest\/news\/gor-mahia-1-afc-leopards-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Gor Mahia 1 AFC Leopards 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/gormahia.net\/images\/olunga-afc-15.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"492\" height=\"328\" \/><\/p>\n<p>courtesy of futaa.com<\/p>\n<p>The 77<sup>th<\/sup> meeting between arch rivals AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia famously known as the Mashemeji Derby on Sunday 12 April ended 1 \u2013 1 with goals from the on form Ali Abondo for Gor Mahia and Jacob Keli for AFC Leopards either side of half time.<\/p>\n<p>A strong start for the hosts, Leopards saw Gor Mahia keeper Boniface Oluoch called action at least thrice by the hard working Emmanuel Ngama and the keeper did well on all occasions including making a last ditch save on the line after Ngama got to the end on Fredrick Ndaaka\u2019s low cross.<\/p>\n<p>Gor Mahia gradually started taking control of the game and Abouba Sibomana almost forced Jackson Saleh to turn a hard shot to his own net while Rwandan Meddie Kagere proved to be a constant threat to the Leopards defence only that most of his runs were not well timed.<\/p>\n<p><b>Abondo goal<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Ali Abondo, who had earlier tested the <i>Ingwe<\/i> defence with long range shots, was at the right place at the right time on 34 minutes to pick Khalid Aucho\u2019s pass that Michael Olunga cleverly dummied and Abondo placed it well to the far corner, leaving Ingwe keeper Wycliffe Kasaya rooted to the spot.<\/p>\n<p>Gor Mahia should have doubled their lead on the final minute of the first half after Meddie Kagere\u2019s first touch and run left Jackson Saleh for dead but his shot from a tight angle beat Kasaya but went agonizingly off target.<\/p>\n<p>Logarusic \u2013 Keli magic<\/p>\n<p>AFC Leopards coach Zdravko Logarusic introduced Bernard Mangoli at the start of the second half in placed of the anonymous Fredrick Ndaaka and the move paid off with Mangoli and Musa Mudde adding stability to the midfield while checking Aucho and Collins Okoth\u2019s influence.<\/p>\n<p>Five minutes after the restart, Austin Ikenna beat Abouba Sibomana with both pace and skill on the right and his low cross was met by the unmarked Ngama on the far post but his shot on goal was tipped away by Boniface Oluoch, only as far as the waiting Jacob Keli who smashed it home to level matters.<\/p>\n<p>Ugly scenes ensued after the equalizer with Haron Shakava and Ngama the main actors but referee Nasur Doka managed to bring the situation under control, with Ngama booked in the process.<\/p>\n<p>Ikenna shouts<\/p>\n<p>Ikenna had shouts for a penalty waved away after going down in a tussle with Shakava in the box on the 57<sup>th<\/sup> minute and two minutes later Ingwe had a freekick from which Ngama shot well on target but Oluoch made another good save.<\/p>\n<p>Ali Abondo went close on 65 minutes with a free kick that was not well handled by Kasaya but the keeper redeemed himself with a save on the second attempt as Shakava lurked and Collins Okoth spurned another chance eight minutes later after nice build up play from the champions.<\/p>\n<p>Martin Kiiza almost cost Ingwe late in the game with an error that gifted Meddie Kagere possession in the box but the Rwandan\u2019s cross went harmlessly across the face of goal and Leopards managed to hold on to see Gor Mahia drop points for the first time in the season.<\/p>\n<p>Teams<\/p>\n<p><b>AFC Leopards:<\/b> 18.
