This year’s mid year transfer season was far more satisfactory than what pertained in 2014. This despite the fact that Gor Mahia has only signed two players.\u00a0 Last year was disastrous as Gor Mahia lost several key players: Shaban Kenga was pulled back by Bandari who had loaned him to the club, Timonah Wanyonyi was snatched by AFC Leopards while others like Rama Salim, Anthony Akumu and Kevin Omondi and Jared Obwoge left to pursue perceived greener pastures. The departures left Gor Mahia with very little depth which Gor Mahia tried to plug with the signing of\u00a0 Gattuso and a host of inexperienced players like Simon Mburu,\u00a0 Charles Bruno, Ian Niva and Kennedy Ayong.<\/p>\n
This lack of squad stability and inexperience contributed to Gor Mahia’s poor showing in the the CECAFA club cup and GoTV shield. This season thankfully there has been no mass departures YET. Emphasis on YET. This means the club will have a modicum of stability for the second half of the season and other upcoming tournaments like CECAFA where continuity and familiarity between players is important as is squad depth.<\/p>\n
Though Gor Mahia only signed two players, coach Nuttall is satisfied with the two players signed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think for Gor Mahia, Agwanda is a very good signing; he has a lot of potential gauging from the number of goals he scored in all competitions for Sofapaka in 2014 and also given he is only 22 years old. He still has room for development but I believe he is one player who will do well at Gor Mahia.” said Nuttall to supersport<\/p>\n
Nuttall says that Agwanda’s versatility and aggression will make him most useful especially as a second half option because he can use his strength to exploit tiring defenders.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe reason I say is because he can play in a few different positions and shows a high level of aggressiveness and the kind of strong mentality that we encourage here at Gor Mahia. I am happy to have him\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
Paul Were adds depth and more attacking options down the flanks.<\/p>\n
“Were is a good addition to the team. He is a good quality player and adds more competitiveness to the squad.” said Nuttall to supersport.<\/p>\n
