Gor Mahia will fly to Dar es Salaam on Thursday. This after an impromptu fund raiser was held on Tuesday. President Uhuru Kenyatta via the sports ministry facilitated return tickets.<\/p>\n
A total of ksh 2.1 million was raised at the fund-raiser. According to goal.com, those who donated included:<\/p>\n
Eng. Job Ndege Sh100, 000 (his friends Sh123, 000), Sam Wakianga Sh200, 000, Kariobangi Sharks chairman Nick Mwendwa Sh200, 000, Gor Semelango (Sh100, 000), Cyprian Awiti (Sh100, 000), Mp Moses Kuria (Sh200, 000), Jakoyo Midiwo (Sh20, 000), Ambrose Rachier (Sh100, 000), Steve Omondi (Sh20, 000) Tom Alila (Sh20, 000), Eng, Nyamunga (Sh25, 000).<\/p>\n
Others include Peter Kenneth (Sh100, 000), Apiko Owiro (Sh25, 000), Gor Mahia excecutive office (Sh110, 000), President Sam Nyamweya (Sh50, 000), Nicholas Musonye (Sh50, 000), Dr. Oyore (Sh20, 000).<\/p>\n
MP Moses Kuria went further to say that he would like Gor Mahia to move their home matches to Gatundu<\/p>\n
\u201cI like Gor Mahia as a club and I want to ask top management to consider having Gatundu Stadium as their home ground when the new stadium is passed fit to host matches. The stadium is currently under construction and should be ready for use starting next season.\u201d he said according to goal.com<\/p>\n
Most experts who have spoken out fancy Gor Mahia’s chances of doing well at this year’s CECAFA club cup. Among those who chimed in is former coach Bobby Williamson who thinks that this year’s team has gelled alot better than last year’s team.<\/p>\n
“The team has been together for a long time now, gelled well and they have shown that in the league. Individually they have a lot of quality and if they pull together as a team then they can pull surprises in the tournament,” said Williamson to futaa.com<\/p>\n
Current member of the technical bench Mathew Ottamax is also adamant that Gor Mahia has a good opportunity to win this tournament for the first time in 30 years.<\/p>\n
“The team has been preparing for this tournament in the league matches and we are in great shape to compete. We respect our opponents because every team is a champion in their local league. ” said Ottamax to futaa.com<\/p>\n
Whereas last year, Gor Mahia went to CECAFA with numerous inexperienced players, this year the club boasts a good blend of youth and experience which makes Ottamax more confident.<\/p>\n
“We have both experienced and young players in the squad. The seniors have played at this level and they know what it takes to excel at this level. This will help us to get out of difficult situations” continued Ottamax.<\/p>\n
Players like Kagere who have featured and thrived in this tournament will especially be useful. Kagere was the top scorer in the 2011 CECAFA senior challenge cup.<\/p>\n
Coach Nuttall for his part realizes that the competition at the tournament will be\u00a0 a notch higher than what pertains in the local league.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is obviously going to be high competition in that tournament because all the teams that are coming in are national champions in their respective countries. It is a good thing that we are leaving the country with an unbeaten league record, and it will be lovely to have the same results in Cecafa.” said Nuttall to supersport.com<\/p>\n
Nuttall does not want to get ahead of himself. The team must take one game at a time and not worry about winning the tournament yet.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe, however, have to be realistic and I think making it out of the group stages alive will be a great way to start because, then, it will give us room to build up and possibly challenge for top honours. But we need to get out of the group and that is our goal,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
