Following his impressive performance, Opiyo was able to attend trials with German second tier side Fortuna Dusseldorf. It is worth noting that Gor Mahia beat Fortuna Dusseldorf 1-0 in a 1985 friendly match thanks to a goal by Abass Magongo. At the time Fortuna Dusseldorf was in the top league, the Bundesliga.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gormahia.net\/images\/opiyo-hey.jpg\" alt=\"Peter Opiyo and Antoine Hey\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Opiyo was introduced to Dusseldorf coach Norbert Meier by former national team coach Norbert Meier, who remarked &#8220;One could see at first attempt that the boy can play very good\u00a0football &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Antoine Hey told the German media :\u00a0&#8220;Peter plays for me in the national team. He is a very good player, whose key strengths is on the\u00a0defensive midfield\u00a0\u201c, said Hey , a former D\u00fcsseldorfer professional. \u201eI would be pleased much, if he could find accomodation here.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Opiyo said &#8220;My goal is it, here with Fortuna &#8211; where I am\u00a0impressed so far. &#8211; I hope to help this club earn a promotion to the Bundesliga.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Dusseldorf website, \u201c There are however two problems. \u201eThe player has still one and a half years contract in Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>The second difficulty: On Opiyos favourite position in the defensive midfields Fortuna has\u00a0actually no need.
