Striker Nicholas Kipkurui has ditched Gor Mahia for Ulinzi Stars.

According to Gor chairman Ambrose Rachier, the player requested for a release letter but did not indicate where he was headed.

Rachier however said they had information that he was in talks with the military side and was absorbed during the recent military recruitment. Sources indicate he will undergo military training with the rest of the recruits.

“It is true he requested for a release letter which we processed and gave him and we have now confirmed he has been given a job by the Kenya Defence Forces,’’ said Rachier.

Kipkurui was instrumental for Gor as they eliminated Rwandan side APR from the 2021 CAF Champions League, at the preliminary stage, at the Nyayo National Stadium when he scored a late header to send the Rwandese crashing out.

He joined K’Ogalo in November 2018 from Kericho based side Zoo FC and has featured for the local giants in the local scene and at international level. He joins the list of dependable players who have left the cash-strapped Gor in the recent past.

Rachier admitted that they have lost a dependable player whose talent will not be easy to replace.

Lawrence Juma, Francis Kahata, Meddie Kagere and Joash Onyango are some of the marquee talents who’ve ditched the Kenyan champions in the recent past.

“He is a striker of his kind. We rue losing him but it is within his right to choose a team of his choice. We will work with the players we have meanwhile,” he concluded.
