Report from MozzartSports
The win is the first for the 21-time champions this season and takes them to fourth in the league standings

Record league champions Gor Mahia finally got off the mark after a false start to the season following a comfortable 2-0 win over Sofapaka on Saturday, 27 September at the Dandora Stadium.

The match started with Sofapaka on the front foot, pinning K’Ogalo into their own half, but all the attack only counted for corners in the opening 10 minutes.

Gor Mahia grew into the game as the clock kept on ticking, but it was Sofapaka who got a clear chance with a foul on the edge of the box that Roy Okal shot over the bar.

K'Ogalo’s first chance came in the 31st minute when Ghanaian import Ebenezer Adukwa attempted a shot from the edge of the box, but his effort was blocked for a corner.

In the resultant corner, K’Ogalo scored their first goal of the season. A mix-up in the box led to a goal melee, which eventually landed kindly for Adukwa, whose shot crossed over the line by the time Sofapaka’s defense was clearing it.

Gor Mahia were back at it five minutes after the goal when Vinedine Ambesa fouled Austine Odhiambo in the box, forcing referee Badir Yadin to point to the spot.

Austin stepped forward for a chance to score his first goal of the season, but his spot kick was weak and well saved by Victor Kamungo in the Sofapaka goal to ensure the score was 1-0 in favour of K’Ogalo at halftime.

In the second half, the match started evenly, as the battle remained in midfield with no substantial attacks for either side.

However, the half came alive in the 55th minute when Adukwa picked a ball in the middle of the pack, spotted Kamungo off his line and took a long shot that found the back of the net to double Gor’s lead.

Enock Morisson attempted a repeat of the same three minutes later, but Kamungo parried it away for a corner before making a comfortable save on Odhiambo’s shot on the hour mark.

The two teams kept pushing, Gor for a third and Sofapaka to kickstart a comeback, but none was forthcoming.

Batoto ba Mungu came close in the 89th minute when Stephen Bonney rose high to meet an Aldrian Oloo corner, but headed wide with the final whistle blowing a few minutes later.

The win is the first for the 21-time champions this season and takes them to fourth in the league standings.
