For the Bankers, the defeat extended a two-year winless run against Gor Mahia
Gor Mahia made it two wins in a row in the 2025/26 FKF Premier League after edging KCB 1-0 in a tense round-four encounter at Dandora Stadium on Sunday, October 5.
Felix Oluoch Mboya scored the game’s sole goal at the hour mark to seal three points for K’Ogalo, who moved to third place on the log with six points, a tally similar to that KCB.
Further, Oluoch's strike moved Gor Mahia to within touching distance of leaders Shabana heading into the October FIFA international break.
For the Bankers, the defeat extended a two-year winless run against Gor Mahia.
Their last victory over the record champions came in January 2023, a game they won 1-0.
Since then, the sides have met six times, with four matches ending evenly and Gor Mahia winning twice.
Gor players began the afternoon by saluting the hundreds of travelling supporters who had painted the Dandora Stadium stands green, dancing to the beat of drums and their famous akapela chants.
At exactly 3:30 pm, centre referee Israel Mpaima blasted the first whistle to get the FKF Premier League clash underway, with Bankers taking the first kick.
It was KCB who threatened first, almost snatching an early lead in the second minute.
December Kisakah whipped in a dangerous delivery that was headed clear by Michael Kibwage.
Gor responded in the sixth minute when Ebenezer Adukwaw rose highest to meet an Austin Odhiambo free-kick, but his glancing header went narrowly off target, having caught the Bankers’ defence flat-footed.
As the clocked ticked, Gor began to dominate possession, stringing together confident passes that drew loud cheers from the stands with every slick move.
The record champions, however, were dealt an early setback in the 15th minute as midfielder Alpha Onyango hobbled off with an injury, forcing coach Charles Akonnor to introduce Fidel Origa.
KCB tried to wrestle back control, with Bryton Onyona making a crucial block to deny Tedja Wanumbi after a swift build-up that started from deep from Clyde Senaji.
By the 20th minute, neither side had managed to carve out a decisive chance, though Gor’s grip on possession was evident.
Their patient build-up play saw Sharrif Musa, Paul Ochuoga and Adukwaw camp in KCB’s defensive third between the 24th and 28th minutes, but they struggled to breach the final line.
The 2023-2024 season'sMost Valuable Player Odhiambo, exchanged neat passes with Oluoch, setting up the latter in a one-on-one situation, but KCB goalkeeper Elvis Ochoro reacted quickly, rushing off his line to smother the danger.
Sensing the growing Gor pressure, KCB head coach Robert Matano made a tactical switch on the half-hour mark, introducing Rowland Makati for Mathias Isogoli in an effort to steady the midfield.
The change sparked some life into the Bankers, who began to venture forward more purposefully in the final stages of the half.
As the referee’s whistle signalled the break, both sides walked off with heads held high after an entertaining yet goalless first half.
The period delivered plenty of intent but no goals, leaving the contest finely poised for the second stanza.
The second half picked up where the first left off with a competitive and balanced affair with KCB’s Senaji making several key interventions in the opening minutes to thwart Gor’s attacks.
Makati became the first player to be booked after a heavy challenge on Odhiambo.
Gor broke the deadlock in the 60th minute. Adukwaw picked up the ball deep in midfield and sliced through the Bankers’ defence before setting up Oluoch, who calmly tapped in for what proved to be the match-winner.

KCB responded with a triple substitution, sending on Kenneth Wambua, Kevin Etemesi, and Rodgers Oporia for Bonface Omondi, Tedja Wanumbi, and Kisakah.
Gor also refreshed their attack, replacing Sharrif Musa with Ben Stanley Omondi with 20 minutes to play.
Three minutes later, KCB almost levelled when Makati released his former City Stars teammate Etemesi into a one-on-one with Gor goalkeeper Brynne Omondi, only for the assistant referee’s flag to halt the move for offside.
In the 74th minute, Gor introduced Patrick Essombe for goal-scorer Oluoch, with the substitute nearly making an instant impact by setting up Ben Stanley, whose hesitation allowed KCB’s defence to recover and clear for a corner.
The record champions had the chance to double their lead in the 79th minute after Osoro fouled Odhiambo inside the box.
However, the Gor playmaker saw his penalty saved as Ochoro dived the right way to keep his side in the game.
Despite sustained pressure from Gor in the closing stages, the Bankers held firm to prevent further damage, but they could not find an equaliser.
Gor’s narrow win not only strengthened their early-season title credentials but also extended KCB’s frustrating run against them, leaving the Bankers still searching for their first victory over K’Ogalo in almost three years.
