If Gor Mahia beats Napsa and qualifies for the CAF Confederation Cup group or prize money stage, the club will earn US $ 275,000 or approximately KES.27.5 M and make a gain of approx.kes. 12M.
So far the club has spent the following, as per Treasurer's reports, on CAF matches.
CR Belouzidad home ..3,175,710.00
CR Belouzidad away*...5,484,160.00
APR home........................224,097.00
APR away.........................615,210.00
Total...............................9,499,177.00
*Club paid for airtickets an expense that the government has been funding during previous CAF engagements.
Had Gor Mahia qualified for the CAF CL prize money stage the club would have earned approx. KES. 55M (US$550,000) hence making a profit of KES. 45.5M.
This is why the CAF CL is way above the second tier CAF Confederation Cup
Having dropped to the CAF Confederation Cup the club is now in a position to earn KES.27.5M (US$275,000).
Vice Chairman Wasuna projects that the club needs KES.6M to prepare for the 2 Napsa matches.
This figure may reduce if EC engages the government early on funding the air tickets to Zambia
The extra Napsa matches will increase the club's CAF expenses to KES.15.5M an additional KES.6 M that would have been avoided by qualifying for the CAF CL group/ prize money stage.
If Gor Mahia beats Napsa then then club gains KES.12 from the US$275,000/kes.27.5M prize money at this stage with a potential of more earnings if it progresses in the CAF competition.
If Gor Mahia is beaten by Napsa the club will have lost KES.15.5 M due to poor planning by EC. This loss will negatively impact the club with debts for the rest of the season.
CAF competitions can be rewarding but are very costly for any club when officials lack foresight.
If Gor Mahia can't reach the group stages of CAF it's better the officials opt out. Failing year after year will financially ruin the club.
Gor Mahia officials like Rachier, Wasuna and Jolawi have over 24 years soccer management experience, CAF included. It shouldn't be a trial and error exercise. It starts with player and TB quality and welfare then adequate preparations.
Hopefully EC will not lead Gor Mahia to a KES.15.5 M failure.
Note. Salaries and other fixed costs have been ignored since these must be paid whether or not the club takes part in CAF
