Defending champions Gor Mahia squandered a golden opportunity to close the gap on FKF Premier League leaders Kenya Police following a 2-1 defeat to struggling Nairobi City Stars at Dandora Stadium in Nairobi on Thursday.
A win would have seen Gor Mahia reduce the gap on Police to just two points and also leapfrog Tusker into second place with a game in hand against Leopards, but they remain third on 53 points.
Before the kick-off, K’Ogalo had been given a massive boost by their title rivals' stumble on Wednesday after Police suffered a 2-1 defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz while second-placed Tusker fell 2-0 against Talanta FC.

City Stars took the lead against the run of play in the fifth minute through Hansel Ochieng, but Benson Omala restored parity after four minutes.
Vincent Owino then converted from the spot in the 17th minute to seal the win for City Stars, their second league match victory on the bounce.
A resolute defensive display from City Stars, combined with a lack of a cutting edge from Gor Mahia saw the Simba wa Nairobi grab a 2-1 win to move from bottom place to 17 on 30 points just two below the safety area with three matches to go.
Earlier on at the same venue, Kariobangi Sharks defeated free falling KCB 1-0 as the Bankers suffered their fourth consecutive loss.
Humphrey Aroko’s solitary goal lifted Sharks to 12th place on 36 points while the defeat saw KCB lose further ground in the top four finish race, lying seventh on the log on 41 points.
