Report from Citizen Digital
Gor Mahia secured their place in the FKF Cup final with a 5-3 victory on penalties against Murang’a Seal, following a thrilling 2-2 draw in regulation time.
Murang’a Seal made a strong start, taking the lead in the 6th minute through Michael Owen. His initial shot was parried by goalkeeper Gad Mathews, but the Gor Mahia defenders failed to clear the danger, allowing Owen to capitalise on the rebound and finish from close range.

Gor Mahia responded with a tactical switch at halftime, bringing on Bryson Wangai for Ben Stanley. The substitution paid off in the 57th minute when Wangai rose at the back post to head in Philemon Otieno’s pinpoint cross, levelling the score.

Just seven minutes later, Alpha Onyango produced a moment of brilliance to put Gor ahead. Receiving a pass from Wangai at the edge of the box, Onyango turned sharply away from his marker and curled a stunning shot into the top right corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

But Murang’a Seal weren’t done yet. They equalised from a long throw-in that was flicked on by Munyovi, creating chaos in the box. Gad Mathews punched the ball under pressure, but it fell perfectly for substitute Wilson Kamau, who was unmarked and slotted home at the near post to make it 2-2.

Gor Mahia nearly snatched a late winner in stoppage time when Austin Odhiambo’s curling free-kick was headed for the top corner, but Wilson Ngamau produced an excellent save to push it wide and send the match to penalties.

In the shootout, Gor Mahia were flawless. Alpha Onyango, Enock Morrison, goalkeeper Gad Mathews, Philemon Otieno, and Austin Odhiambo all converted their penalties. Mathews then turned hero once again, saving Humphrey Obina’s attempt, the only miss of the shootout.

Odhiambo scored the decisive penalty to send Gor Mahia to the FKF Cup final for the first time since their 2021 victory over arch-rivals AFC Leopards.
Gor will now await the winner of the other semifinal between Mara Sugar and Nairobi United to learn their opponent in the final.
