A rain-soaked Sunday in the FKF Premier League brought contrasting fortunes at both ends of the table.
Gor Mahia reasserted their dominance with a commanding 3-0 win over KCB FC, while defending champions Kenya Police FC suffered another setback, settling for a goalless draw against league debutants APS Bomet FC.

Record champions Gor Mahia delivered a first-half masterclass at a rain-hit Nyayo National Stadium, restoring their six-point lead at the summit.
After a 20-minute delay caused by torrential downpour in Nairobi, K’Ogalo wasted little time asserting their authority. With AFC Leopards having briefly cut their lead to three points, the league leaders responded emphatically.
The breakthrough came in the 24th minute when Enock Morisson unleashed a long-range strike that took a deflection and found the bottom corner past Arnold Monzobo. Four minutes later, Samuel Kapen burst down the right byline and squared for Shariff Musa, who slotted home after sustained pressure on KCB’s defence.
Morisson turned provider in the 43rd minute, releasing Musa down the flank before the winger set up Kapen for a thunderous finish into the roof of the net. At 3-0 before halftime, the contest was effectively over.
Under coach Charles Akonnor, Gor Mahia have rediscovered their ruthlessness. Since their December defeat to AFC Leopards, they remain unbeaten in 11 league matches, including six consecutive victories, tightening their grip on the title race.
KCB’s struggles against Gor Mahia continued. They are now winless against the record champions since January 2023, a seven-match run in which they have scored just once. The defeat, their eighth of the season, drops them to eighth on 29 points, 17 behind the leaders’ 46.
Even in second gear after the break, Gor Mahia looked dangerous. Kapen fired over from range in the 53rd minute, while Musa, after rounding Monzobo, struck the side-netting from a tight angle late on. The missed chances mattered little; the statement had already been made.
Earlier, Kenya Police’s title defence took another hit after a barren draw with newly-promoted APS Bomet in the so-called ‘forces derby.’
A dark cloud loomed over Police Sacco Stadium before kickoff, with winger David Okoth ruled out due to a warm-up injury. Rain soon turned the pitch near-unplayable, reducing the match to a physical battle rather than a display of skill.
Police suffered an early scare in the seventh minute when goalkeeper Job Ochieng appeared to pull a muscle attempting a punt, forcing Daniel Ogembo to replace him in the 12th minute.
Chances were few. Bomet came closest in the first half when Rodgers Kipkemoi forced Ogembo into a save on the half-hour, while Philip Wasai’s corner was deflected wide. Hansel Ochieng later fired over from a promising free-kick in stoppage time.
The second half saw cautious, direct football as the rain persisted. Former Tusker midfielder Curtis Wekesa tested Ogembo from range in the 62nd minute, but the substitute keeper kept Bomet in the game. Police introduced Alvin Mang’eni and Clinton Kinanga, seeking urgency, yet the heavy turf made chances rare. APS Bomet goalkeeper Maxwell Mulili was largely untroubled but showed bravery in clearing danger off his line.
The police’s best late opportunity came in the 88th minute when Yves Koutiama met Hernest Malonga’s cross with a header over the bar. Since Nicholas Muyoti’s appointment, Police have won just once in five matches. Now seventh and 13 points off the pace, their hopes of back-to-back titles are fading. APS Bomet, meanwhile, edged a point clear of the relegation zone..
