The Kenyan giants went into the match under immense pressure after their rivals ,AFC Leopards, narrowed the gap to a single point following their 2-1 win over Kakamega Homeboyz on Saturday.

Gor Mahia began the match on a high note, controlling possesion but could only show two wasted corners by the tenth minute.

Gor Mahia’s persistence would then pay off in the 18th minute when Ben Stanley looped a ball behind the Murang’s defense that found Kapen, who was left with the simple task of slotting the ball home.

The goal awakened Gor further as they continued to push for a second but it was not forthcoming.

Waithira would draw Murang'a level in the 36th minute following a lapse in concentration by the Gor defence.

Gor upped the tempo, in the second half, and would get their reward in the 52nd minute when Musa was fed by a long throw by Kapen.

A minute later, Kapen launched another long throw ball to Lawrence Juma who unleashed a ferocious shot, but it was well saved by Wilson Ngamau in the Seal goal.

In the 55th minute, Waithira tasted Bryne Omondi with a long range free kick but it was not enough to trouble the Harambee Stars goalkeeper.

Gor Mahia would then extend their lead in the 77th minute through substitute Ebenezer Assifuah from to ensure they extend the lead.

Gor Mahia would see further goals by Assufuah and Jackson Dwang’ ruled out for offside and foul respectively but the three points had already been sealed.

Mahia are now on 68 points, four points above AFC Leopards and need just a single win to clinch the title. Next up for the 22-time champions is a clash against Mara Sugar.
