Gor Mahia held by Bandari 0-0

Post by faraja »

Report from the Nation
Local giants Gor Mahia on Sunday returned to the top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League table despite battling to a barren draw against Bandari in a tough encounter at Nyayo National Stadium.

The draw saw K'Ogalo return to the top on 18 points from eight encounters, same as Kakamega Homeboyz, who have an inferior goal difference and played out to a scoreless draw against Bidco United on Saturday.

Bandari on the other hand moved to sixth position on 15 points from eight matches.

Bandari dominated the entire contest missing a couple of clear cut chances and were unlucky not to have bagged maximum points.

The coastal side were looking for their first win after playing out to 1-1 draw against Kakamega Homeboyz on November 7 and a barren draw against KCB in the midweek clash.

They wasted no time in showing their intention and in the eighth minute William Wadri found Umaru Kasumba inside the K'Ogalo box, but the forward wasted the good chance as his powerful shot went wide.

While Bandari dictated proceedings, Gor Mahia stayed in their half and tried to penetrate Bandari's defence with no success.

Gor Mahia's attack also looked blunt with the experienced Felly Mulumba outshining Burundian Jules Ulimwengu, who was the lone striker up front with George ' Blackberry' Odhiambo playing behind him.

Despite Bandari having an upper hand in the game, Gor almost struck in the 35th when playmaker Austin Odhiambo dribbled past Bandari defenders to pick out George Odhiambo, who squandered a chance as custodian Michael Wanyika saved his shot for a corner which was immediately cleared by Brian Odera at the heart of defence.

Two minutes later, Odera was booked for a foul play on Gor defender Yusuf Mainge as both tussled for a loose ball in the midfield.

Gor survived another Bandari scare at the stroke of halftime when custodian Gad Mathews had to come out of his line and clear a dangerous ball after former Tusker man Chris Ochieng raced past Frank Odhiambo and would have seized the opportunity to give his side the lead.

In the 54th minute, Mainge was booked for a handball from Siraj's shot as Bandari continued their dominating the proceedings at the 30,000 facility.

Ochieng almost put Bandari ahead at the 61st minute, but his ferocious close range shot was punched out by Mathews for a corner which Alpha Onyango cleared.

Both sides played cautiously, but the blunt attack for K'Ogalo should be a cause for worry for coach Mark Harrison in their upcoming matches.

The draw means Bandari are yet to beat Gor in now six matches, having lost on four occasions and drawn twice

Team iko chini kiasi. Too much backpedaling. Lack of fitness is evident. Attackers are getting very few chances. Misplaced passes galore.
