Zico may be on his way back

Coach Zedekiah Otieno Zico and Bernard Lama

Zedekiah Otieno “Zico” the erstwhile Gor Mahia / Harambee stars coach, appears to be making his way back to Gor Mahia after a long hiatus where he has been in charge of the national team.

Coach Zico had come under fire from Gor Mahia fans after a string of bad results that saw the club play poorly on its way to going winless in 8 games. He had been away from the team while focusing on preparing the national team for various assignments. During that time Kogalo seemed to find its footing again and had started to play better football.

Club chairman Ambrose Rachier has decided to restore Zico to his position as head coach. He was quoted in various sites such as michezoafrika.com stating that Zico is still the coach. His contract ends in January of 2012. Other sites have quoted Zico as saying he is indeed on his way back. So upset were Kogalo fans the last time Zico appeared on the Kogalo bench, that he was pelted with foreign objects. He is yet again showing that his eye is more difficult than PhD level mathematics.

The news will probably not go down well with many Kogalo fans who were looking for a clean break. There have been accusations of favouritism on Zico’s part and other accusations that he holds grudges against certain players. To be fair none of these allegations have been confirmed and no player has come forward to say anything of the sort. Others simply thought that players were not responsive to Zico and that changes were needed.

Sometimes a bird in hand is worth more than two in the bush.Let Zico be the bird in hand. But if the bird in hand is sick let it be given fuagro and if that does not cure it, then let the bird be given a chance to vanish.

This will interfere with the cohesion that has build and the momentum build by the technical Bench will be affected..He should have been sidelined(Leave Extension) to give whatever programe the current leadership in the technical bench time to finish with one game left….Not a good Idea, ata kama he should not play the lead role, since he lost the connection with the players and within a week he cant measure form and commitment of all players..Nothing Agaist Him,but Just reality..Think about it even in the corporate world when theres’s a change in lead role towards an account completion or an Audit preparation or exercise managements dont reactivate/reappointment managers to active roles yawa

The chairman should stop imposing Zico as Gor Mahia coach. Zico’s days are over and behind him as far as coaching the team is concerned. This dictorial tendency of the chairman is causing ripples and discomfort in the team. It is high time the chairman should listen to concerns raised by the fans regarding Zico poor show and performance. Gor Mahia belongs to fans but not for the chairman nor any defacto officials. Chairman, please listen to us. Where are you taking Gor Mahia? You could be having lots of money but note that money is not everything. There are many clubs that you can refer Zico to join but not imposing Zico to the team.

  • It is written in other sites that Rachier stressed that “He (zico) cannot join the technical bench yet ” untill the extended leave ends, and therefore we should find a way to recruit quality technical bench with few additions on weak positions in the squad, but zico should see door and let those who know what loyalty to a club means #KogaloDieHard

Mwakio you got it spot on. Even more irritating is his insistence on changing Kogalo colours come what may!

I never saw Man U, Liverpool, Barca or even locally AFC, Mathare United change their colurs to accomodate a new sponsor.

Mr Rachier you can be as arrogant and aloof as you want for the remaining days you are in office but please, for the sake of the club, stay away from our MIGHTY GREEN KOGALO.

  • I thought normalcy was returning to the club after a poor 4 months show. While legally ZD is still the coach it just doesn’t work for him anymore. Can’t the chair see it? Let’s complete these two games then we can embark on our internal ‘fights’ otherwise we risk sliding back to when any coach was confident of collecting three points from us. GM being a community club the fans opinions need to be heard. Ones views can no longer be imposed. The issue of uniform colours should not even be brought up for debate. We have green (home), white (away) and blue (neutral) and any sponsor or chair has to accomodate that. I hope we are not dragging the sponsors name yet they have nothing to do with it. I also read that the 90% of the jersey price is not going to the sponsor but the kit provider. Some things are not adding up. Somebody asked, what has the sponsor done to the team after the FKL cup triumph. At least we saw Mumias going beyond their sponsorship to motivate AFC, we saw Blue triangle having billboards with Sofapaka in town displaying their Cup. We also saw Mumias CEO, FKA chair and other well-wishers rewarding the team but nothing I have heard from Tuzo. With the confed cup next year the burden is going to be even heavier and an additional sponsor to help Tuzo will be welcome.

Rachier is a loser, and we saw this when he was duped by some people to run for the position he lost overwhelmingly, when even I could see he was headed to the pits . . . . personally I have questioned this man’s tactics as well as the so called Zico, dont interfere with the smooth running of the club affairs especially now when we have played 3 games more and still hanging thereabout. . . .

We cannot afford to lose the momentum we have so far gained in the last 5 matches by castigating Zico since we have 2 crucial matches that require utmost concentration focus & cohesion. Let us forget about Zico since it wont add any value. The reasonable thing is he must apologize to the entire Gor Mahia nation for deserting us to relax the seemingly volatile situation.

On the other hand, does it mean that whenever a new sponsor walks in we shall be changing our colors or is Tuzo our sponsor for life! Gor Mahia is a rich brand & any form of manipulation………

ZICO IS HISTORY! RACHIER IS NEXT ON THE LINE!

Any attempt to re-introduce this filth called ZD through the back door into our now “re-energized and winning mentality based technical bench” in the name of the now uncouth,in-famous and pathetic piece of paper; the so called “RUNNING CONTRACT UNTIL 2012” will be firmly encountered by the full force of the “GREEN ARMY”.

WE HAVE BEEN PUSHED TO THE WALL AND RACHIER AND HIS COMPANY WILL HAVE TO BEAR WITH THE HUMILIATION AND CONSEQUENCE’S . LET US MEET ON 17/11/2011.

I STILL MAINTAIN MY STAND THAT RACHIER MUST GO! PERIOD.

    1. I told you guys that Rachier thinks GM is a personal
thing and by extension a JO-GEM PROPERTY. That is
why his “arrogance attitude” and “one man show
style” that lacks wider consultation within the
wider GM EC spread to ZICO and ultimately caused him
his career at both the club and national level.

2.Let Ko’galo fraternity re-think on the kind of people
that we envisage to take the club beyond the
Luo-community “world view”. Rachier is simply playing
the village politics of JO-GEM with “OUR CLUB”;since
he is the chairman and ZICO is his village he thinks
he can manipulate decision at our expense.

    3. AFC leoprads is peaceful with Ole magelo(MASAAI)
after sweeping clean the village politics of Ochiel
and Asembo into dustbin of “KABURI LA SAHAU”. Even
in GM one MWAKIO who is a die-hard fan deserved to
    listen irrespective of his ORIGIN.

Rachier and ZD after failing in their attempt to over-step GM and shine on the national platform are reaping the fruits of a “GREEDY NYA’NGAU”. MTAKA ZOTE UKOSA VYOTE”. This two devils will only understand one language” FORCEFUL EVICTION”

The Chairman was quoted as making some very grave allegations on an online site
” The Gor supremo had alleged a rival candidate thought to be Football Kenya Limited (FKL) leader, Mohammed Hatimy had infiltrated the team by paying off some players to throw matches”

    http://www.capitalfm.co.ke/sports/2011/11/03/gor-to-invest-for-confed-cup-campaign/

He should elaborate which players these were and why they havent been fired

@ 14 omondiomollo I read the article and i think “our learned friend” simply does not understand the “DIRTY POLITICS” in the world of football.

Hatimy bought return Air Tickets through one ATARO
that facilitated GM FKL cup tie againist CONGO
UNITED.That weekend we had just registered 3-1
victory againist AFC. At the very peak period of the
league we all sense the mediocre performance of his
village-mate one ZD and even EC summoned the entire
bench and playing unit to find a solution against
    the poor trend.

But the CHAIR absconded so as to save the skin of his village-mate. Our winning ways returned to normal only after we took issue into our own hands and handed “ZICO” and his “GOONS” their marching orders so as to save the situation once and for all.

RACHIER knows he failed because he did not have even the blessing of GM. He is still raw in national football politics and has no grass root connection with most clubs country wide.

    NB: @ KOSERO- SOFASET BRANCH
Do not compare Rachier with JOB OMINO [R.I.P], these are two individuals who are world a part when it comes to multi-tasking. JOB was a patron who simply ensured that his finances catered for GM and many other clubs. He was Filthy rich in the world of business and owned almost entirely all buildings along oginga odinga Rd in KISUMU COUNTY. He was a master of political games that even MOI and the late ROBERT OUKO [R.IP] feared despite the fact that kenya was a one party state with all machinery.

RACHIER IS SIMPLY A GAMBLER TRYING TO USE GM SA HIS LAUNCHING PAD AND HE WILL FAIL MISERABLY.

And his ego is still driving him to re-introduce ZD.

THIS GUY IS THE MAIN PROBLEM IN GM THAT WE MUST DISPENSE WITH SOONER THAN LATTER.

  • LET US UNDERSTAND THE TUZO DEAL FIRST B4 WE MAKE OUTRAGEOUS COMMENTS

Today i have elected to stay away from the never ending Zico debacle. My position on this issue is in the public domain.

Ever since K’ogalo strike a deal with the milk gianto, TUZO to sponsor the club shirt, there have been mixed reactions about the sponsorship. In their typical style, a section of our fans were quick to dismiss the sponsorship as a sham. I wish to note that in the initial stages of the deal, Kogalo fraternity hyped the deal so much that when Thika Uited – another club sponsored by another brand of the compnany, with Kogao at the Thika municipal stadium, it was dubbed, the MILK DERBY.

It should be well understood that the company sponsoring the shirt has it’s rights. Such rights also includes the change of colour to reflect the colour code of the company. This is not a new concept but a standard practice the world over.

Once the contracts expires, the club revert to their traditional colours. On the issue of the high replica jersey, this is a matter that can be re-negotiated betwween the sponsor and the apparel manufacturer- LEGEA. Let me alps quickly add the quality of the shirt is unparalleld. K’Ogalo being a club associated with swagger, there is nothing wrong to pay a little more for quality.

Its very depressing for the chairman to allege,at this stage, that some of his KFA opponents infiltrated for our beloved GM to the extent of paying our players to throw away matches. What has he done to counter this?
The fact is that we told him that his forays into national football politics would be detrimental to GM and now its plain to see,by his own admission, that his actions have cost us the league title .
But that is all water under the bridge we are now recovering and r very focused more so OUR COLOUR IS GREEN AND ZIKO IS NOT THE HEAD COACH OF GM. No contract is cast in stone so stop fooling us that ZD’s contract its extra special. How does a whole chairman introduce side issues at this stage that the club is recovering!! Nkest

Zico has done what he could and therefore is now past. We are moving ahead and we don’t belong to the past. If Rachier owns Gor, then lets see if Zico will be in the technical bench next match.

Opuk and the restof like minded i am on your side though i stopped the AR and ZICO clobbering.. i’ve been disturbed too by the sudden change of team col-ours.

Someone pointed it to me at Nyayo on Wednesday that blue was used many years ago.

But, where is this practice of changing fundamentals with change in sponsorship practiced anywhere else..i will accommodate the fact that away matches attire may vary but were we away during the Sony match? and is the chairman at liberty to do anything with anyone regarding K’ogallo, surely?

Guys, at one time i blamed K’ogalo fans for rejecting the idea of having GM transformed into a private limited Company now we can see what would happen if imperialists are allowed to turn this Community club into a ‘private members only’ entity.

As Ogango puts it, its sickening to see this Rachier guy still making statements as if he deserves taking any meaningful responsibility on behalf of the club..looking at him carefully reveals that he is truly a chaos causer through his tendencies and i wonder whatever he achieves when he leads GM to mayhem only to refer to others as hooligans.

I dont think most fans have a problem with the color issue. The problem we have is that 90% of the proceeds from jersey sales goes to Legea. This is a sham. Fans want to support the team but not when its such a scam. Legea is getting good publicity for their brand and on top of that they have the audacity to take 90% of the proceeds. Which brings me to Rachier.

How is it possible that he a lawyer was hoodwinked into brokering such a bad deal ? Did he take something on the side to accept such a bad deal ? Is he so ignorant not to realize that fans will not buy jerseys for that reason ? As soon as the deal was announced, fans decided to boycott the new jersey.

Rachier is tone deaf to fans. This explains his decision to bring back Zico. If he is not careful, some of the foreign objects being thrown at Zico will be thrown in his direction. The point is that there will be hooliganism because of his decisions. Some fans may desert the stadia yet again.

  • FACTS ARE VERY STURBBON

Comrade Joe Riaga and Ogango Trailer.

You can choose to ignore me but as Hon James Orengo yesterday remarked in parliament,’Facts are very stubborn’

Comrade Joe , if you call the deal a scam, why do you then call for sponsponship? Are you not conscious of the welfare of your players? The team is well kitted now, fairly remunarated and fully insured. Is this what you call a scam?

Going forward, perhaps you could have suggested a indepedent committee to investigate whether the deal was properly entered into, investigate impropriety and make appropriate recommendations. Only then we can hold the leaders accontable. This ETHICS COMMITTEE be a permanent one to deal with these emerging issues.

Finally I feel sad when I read your comments inciting thefans against our administration. The chairman is mandated by the club constitution to make decisions however unpopular. Zico contract with K’ogalo is meanwhile intact. I shall continue to advocate for civility and decorum till the end.

Ole Lelerue, I think u r most familiar with the saying you can take a cow to the river but you cannot force it to drink. While the chairman tries to publicize the legea (kiswahili intrepretation pliz) jerseys/ kit at the exorbitant kshs.2.800 the fans’ preferred Addias Jersey continues to sell like hot-cakes because of its
    1.affordable price of kshs 1,200-1,500,
2.Its attractive logo of GOR MAHIA F.C displayed prominently on the front is what is attractive to fans,
3.It is our colours green/white that sells- Any blue will be a total flop.
Those new outfits can’t and won’t sell coz fans don’t identify with them which means the favourite jersey will sell but on the black market and the club will get zero. So lets get off our high horses be practical and move the beloved GM forward. Bring merchandize that is attractive/acceptable to fans and it will be sold in high volumes from official outlets not items that will ‘rot’ on GM shelves coz no retailer will stock unpopular merchandize!

I dont have a problem with the Tuzo sponsorship. I am happy for it.

My problem is with ARs assertion that 90% of the proceeds of jersey sales go to Legea. KOGALO DOES NOT NEED LEGEA THIS BADLY. Its like we needed them so badly that we let them take 90% of the proceeds of Jersey sales. They should have brokered a deal like the one AFC did with Mumias Sugar or Sofapaka with Blue Triangle.

This deal with Legea is a scam. I have never heard of a scenario whereby fans pay for jerseys and 90% of the proceeds go the jersey company. What is so special about Legea ? Why not broker a deal with a local company that is cheaper. Something does not add up about this deal.

I see a lot of emotions pouring in from all quarters. My instinct predicts that the fans are seeing something fishy and i do pray that the club officials take note of this. The coach made childish and tactless errors by openly and rudely sidelining many players like kitawi, and the sony sugar danger man among others

He often felt stars’ job was more important than Gor’s and many a time rudely rebuffed any thoughts of being on the bench for the team. His was a flimsy feeling that the team was headed for demise without his presence

In short, the coach was arrogant about call to duty, unprofessional towards a cause, unconcerned about the feeling of the fans, less commitment to the future of the team and over and above,a poor decision maker

I said it before, and i repeat that the contemporary Gor is not a tribalistic, nepotistic nor clanistic based and i won’t sympathize with anybody who still harbors those stereotype and vasco da gamma based if given matching orders by the loyal fans. I rest my case
