Anaba Awono has named his 18-man squad for Gor Mahia’s CAF Confederation Cup game against Mozambican side Ferroviario de Maputo, on Saturday 18 February.

The Cameroonian born tactician has defended his selection criteria saying that, it’s per individual’s training performance, out-put and experience that granted them a chance.

only eighteen

-I have 30-players in the team, but we’ only have a chance for 18 players; it’s all about training performance, out-put and continental experience, Awono told futaa.com.

Both Hugo Nzoka and Duncan Makori, who scored in Gor’s  0-2 Kenyan Premier League win over Thika United on Sunday (Feb 12), have been given a nod as well as Rama Salim and Baldwin Ngwa.

Most of the summer signings will be left behind including Donald Mosoti, Ibrahim Kitawi, Peter Juma, Wycliffe Kasaya, George Midenyo and Tony Nyang’or.

Final squad

Goalkeepers:  1. Frederick Onyango, 16. Philip Ivo Mapunda

Defenders: 15. David Owino, 5. Musa Mohammed, 3. Christopher Wekesa, 7. Yusuf Juma, 18. Ivan Anguyo

Midfielders: 6. Anthony Akumu, 13. Collins Okoth, 30. Moses Otieno, 10. Victor Ali Abondo, 21. Rama Salim,  2. Kevin Ochieng’, 25. Moses Odhiambo

Strikers: 8. Hugo Nzoka, 28. Baldwin Ngwa, 11. John Kiplangat, 17. Duncan Makori

  • Mwakio thats the way to go my brother. Let God be God in evry situatn tht we encouter- football included. As for the no.2 position, I feel the coach is spot on in sticking Musa there 4 ths kind of a match. In an away game, you need more solidity at the back hence it suits us jst fine to go wth him. He wil attack the flanks less (controled over-lap) = less vulnerability at th back. Musa wl play wth a CB mentality- less forward adventure. The coach should play a 4:4:2 or 4:5:1. We should adventure forward mostly by counter-attack and at speed. This hs informed the coaches’ decision in having Kip, Makori, Ngwa and Kevin Ochieng. These are quick hard-workhng players. Probable line-up G.Keepr Jerim, Defence Musa, Owino, Anguyo, Juma Yusuf, Mid- Gattuso, Moses Otieno, Makori, K. Ochieng, Strikers- Rama and Ngwa. Go for it boys. You must apply yourselves fully if we are to get a result. God bless you all.

  • Prayers offered on this blog are most welcome. Zambia prayed and believed and all came true. On fielding let’s leave all that for the coach and wish Nasio and Lavatsa quick receovery. On the fans giving the coach a lady I believe that’s a careless statemet. That’s not what GM fans are there for. I wish all the Best as the team leaves for Maputo. If they were to check what we did to Esperence in Tunis and AFC in Sudan and Malawi then all they need to do is to believe that ‘ it can be done’.

This is the time a team gets inspiration from it’s past. This is the time we kiss the clubs badge and re-live the pride and excitement the past performers have brought the club and fight to the last drop of sweat to defend it. This is the time Kogalo wins in Maputo. Go for it boys. Bring back our glory days with a 2nil victory.

Its good squad thou abit worried with central defence and right fullback, what could have happen with nasio, idont get him in injury list.Midfielders are OK and strikers too.i would wish if anaba advice boys to contain our opponents with first half as we read them and surge gradually towards second half and have static defenders.otherwise,Gor is respected team in Africa so opponent will also approach the game with panic.Good luck kogallo

The selection is good but latest bad news is that Hugo has pulled out due to injury. Now then is the time to include Kevin Omondi, in any case why was this lad out of the squad? Unless he is also injured he deserved a spot in the squad from the beginning.

  • Agwa Kassam

I’ve also believed Kevin Omondi is one great talent in the country and will later be at the world stage. I only would not recommend anyone for any squad because the tech bench knows them day in day out.

They are therefore better placed to read the line up that plays..i will never be disappointed if any player is not in the team at any time because people are employed to do their job.

    wish the best
