Ferreira concerned with team psyche

Gor Mahia coach Jose Marcelo Ferreira aka Ze Maria has admitted that his team has been out of sync for the past two days.

“There seems to be a problem with the team in terms of synergy and co-ordination and to be honest it is a concern not just for me but even for the players themselves. I have talked to them individually to get their points of view and perhaps we shall need to change a few things in the squad,” he said to kpl.co.ke

Gor Mahia started the second leg well taking a 2-0 lead against Thika United but then played below par after taking a two goal lead. The subsequent matches against Ushuru and Kakamega were dissappointing as the Kagere-Tuyisenge partnership failed to click, the midfield was sub par and the defence appears shakey. Meanwhile teams sought to spoil the game in order to gain a draw.

“Some teams apply very crude methods of surviving against us. You find that sometimes we play just 30 minutes in each half because the rest of the time the opposing players are lying on the ground feigning injury,” he said.

He can expect more of the same against City Stars on Sunday so he needs to come up with a strategy to counter such negative tactics. It is also possible that teams have figured out a way to counter Ze Maria’s tactics. So Ze Maria may have to adapt to new tactics. The mark of a great coach is the ability to adapt and change tactics depending on the circumstances.

He should change the tactics then Erick Ouma plays more upfront hence should play at position 10 Abuba Sibomana play at position 3 and Byron to start at 11.

  • When yours truly, A person, Tosh and a few others said exactly the coach is saying, we were accused of sinister motives. Wonder if Ze Maria has joined that unpopular clique?!. Twice in one week he has come out in the press to voice his concerns. Wish him the best once again

    • @Musyomo our honest concerns has been vindicated by the coach. We truly love our brand but at times it’s better to speak the truth even if you are alone. Coach seems perturbed by the performance in training by the team but he should stand firm and encourage boys that all is not lost and that we still have a bigger chance to retain the trophy. The problem l’m seeing in the team is that they had confidence that they were going to beat other teams easily but that’s not the case thus pressure/ frustration starting to creep in. Other teams have learnt our tactics of playing through the wings hence Ze maria should device a way to counter that for better performance otherwise l’m still optimistic that the team will deliver come Sunday all we are asking for is seriousness in the field and no team should be underrated.

  • Last post “unpertubed” now “concerned”. Definite solution to “negative tactics” EARLY GOALS so that opponents are always chasing the game e.g Thika/HBoyz. Though against Ushuru twas our very own BB (not Barefoot Bandit but Blackberry) who opened the “feigning injury” show. Today I confirmed a fact. EC ya Paka aka Ingwe pay themselves 10k each for every 3 meetings and they hold about 10 meetings every month. This costs their club 300k every. Now apparently GM’s EC pay themselves double. Questions 1) how come this item never appears in the financial statements,2) the myth that EC work for free has been busted and now every EC member can be held accountable & surcharged for actions that coz GM losses. So all these schemes of gate collections, borrowing from players Amin/Inno, Situmbekoring are all pure greed. SPONSOR/NO SPONSOR WE SHOULD NEVER HEAR OF PLAYER PAYMENT ISSUES AT GOR. Source Radio Jambo hope Dan.O was tuned in.

    • Can’t be mapenzi and its in the archives here. Apparently I lent A some money which A did not repay as agreed so I went missing/boycotted training for quite a while. He then suddenly reappeared and all was well thereafter. Check the archives.

Whatever the outcome tomorrow, I will stand by team and the coach. I know they are very concerned about the poor run.

  • The problem in Gor Mahia is coming from the technical bench where Jolawi and Ogweno are the main culprit of influencing the coach decision to even field underperforming players like Blackberry and Luke Ochieng. The coach has to stand up firm and have his first eleven not every time coming up with different lineup. The question that begs is that doe our coach has his first eleven? As long as the coach is influenced by these two men in technical bench, Gor Mahia is going to continue underperforming. Why have the player in the field for more than 45 minutes if the player can not even deliver a pass nor shoot at goal? Apart from the goal Kagere scored in Kisumu, what has been the contribution of Blackberry in the pitch? Yet he is one of the experienced player in the pitch!

Baron Oketch is far more better than Blackberry hence he should be playing in the position of Blackberry.

If the coach continue with experimenting the team with players that do not even qualify to wear Gor Mahia jersey like Luke Ochieng, we will continue to struggle. Luke Ochieng has no pace and not intelligent at all in being paired with Musa Mohamed in the centre of defense. He is the weak link and this has resulted to aimless passes with youra-nena style of playing. Owino’s younger brother is far much better than Luke Ochieng if Shakava is not playing.

The impact of Eric Marcelo has been neutralized because of the ineffectiveness of the Blackberry that has no understanding with Eric Marcelo. When Marcelo overlaps, it is natural that Blackberyy should fallback to cover for Marcelo in defense but blackberry has kept on running and drifting away from that role in the pitch and has no energy to fall back to cover for Marcelo.

The defense should be Nizigiman, Marcelo/Sibomana, Musa and Shakava/Odhiambo
The midfield Wendo, Gattuso/ Kahata, Walusimbi/Njuguna
    Striking wide Baron/Walusimbi, Wafula/Nondi
    Central strikers Jausenge/Keli and Kagere/Agwanda

    • @jamigori, what a transformation? You used to scream at us to let the coach do his job since he knows best!!!When did you ‘see the light’? #JustKidding#. Unlike BB I would be so devastated with less than a win against City Stars. I long for the ruthless Gor Mahia I saw towards the end of the first leg!!!

Musymo my brother I have no choice. I feel boxed and cornered and I am resigned to the reality that things are just not working. Anyway I believe that Innocent Wafula will be fielded. My advice to him is to always aim at the far post once he has the goal at his sight. Near post rarely works. I wish George Blackberry a great performance today.

  • Me concurs, lets have Sibomana at leftback and Marcelo further forward for the simple reason that he’s one player who can beat opponents one on one, draw them out of position with support from his teammates (running & thinking at the same time) create chances. Allow me to revisit EC allowances by adding since officials are adequately remunerated then 1) Note that bloated EC costs GM more than kshs.7.2million/year in allowances 2) there’s no reason for the likes of Ngala to hung up on reporters or avoid questions since he’s being paid as are all officials. Also i hope the ingwe official declared his allowance in his KRA tax returns since what he said is self-incriminating.

    • @BB it’s always rare to see you feel cornered from your previous posts but l understand the frustration Kogallo fraternity is going through. What l’m asking the coach is to ask players to be ruthless and play with alot of urgency by fielding Ouma as No 11 and Sibomana as No 3, that wing will be busy all through. He can sub Sibomana in the second half and bring in Oketch to ensure the speed in that wing is constant. Such like games need Agwanda with his throws in last 15 min as this will make the tiring defenders on their toes making them prone to mistakes in box area and there will be no room to waste time. Just my opinion.

Tosh I can see the coach has granted your wish. Too bad that there is still no Odula in the midfield.

        • Yours comes to pass too as Innocent Wafula starts. He is wasteful and indecisive but makes up for it with energy and never say die attitude. Am always happy with him in the field and this sadly is an opnion not many share.
